Introduction
This document is designed to provide guidance to users using CLIENT Internet facilities.
Note to all staff
The Internet is provided to staff as a tool to enhance their productivity and allow them to discharge their duties in a more effective and efficient manner. As such, personal use of the Internet should be kept to a minimum. The Internet should not be used for personal reasons if it will interfere with the relevant staff member’s ability to discharge their duties adequately.
Internet use monitoring
Home use of corporate IT resources for Internet browsing: It should be noted that all PCs store information on sites visited. If a PC moves from one user to another, and the future user of the PC makes a complaint about what these records show, then this information could be used as the basis for disciplinary action. Use of corporate IT resources for Internet browsing at work: All web traffic is filtered through the company proxy server that logs all sites visited, by whom and when. These records could be used as the basis for disciplinary action if they indicate that a user has used corporate time and resources to visit inappropriate sites.
Internet Etiquette
The company’s IT resources should not be used to attack or interfere with any other computer or network Only represent yourself as who you are on the Internet The Internet should not be used to transmit confidential, political, obscene, threatening, or harassing materials Software should not be downloaded form the Internet and installed on the company’s PCs. If you absolutely need to do so, please clarify this with IT first Material of a pornographic, racist or extreme political nature, or which incites violence, hatred or any illegal activity should not be downloaded Non-work related material should not be downloaded from the Internet. Approval in writing should be requested form your Manager if you need to do this
Legal protection provided by copyright and licenses to data and software should be respected Ensure that the information you a accessing is valid, complete, accurate and current Keep your personal Internet use to a minimum
