            Downtown Greensboro Incorporated to Honor
Downtown Cleaning and Police Crews Tomorrow at Fincastles Diner

Greensboro, N.C. – Downtown Greensboro Incorporated (DGI) will host its second
appreciation breakfast tomorrow to recognize the Clean and Green Team, City of
Greensboro Sanitation workers and the Center City Resource Team (bike and foot patrol).
The breakfast will be at Fincastles Diner in Downtown Greensboro on July 17 from 8:00 to
9:30 a.m. with donations from long-time board member and Downtown developer Milton
Kern and from the Charlotte branch of the international food distributor, Sysco. The
breakfast is being held to honor the ongoing work and service each group provides to keep
Downtown Greensboro Clean, Green and Safe.

The event will be hosted by the DGI Board of Directors and staff with assistance from
Fincastles owner, Jody Morphis. President/CEO Ed Wolverton, Board Chairman Michael
Schiftan, DGI staff and volunteers will help prepare and serve the food.

“These groups provide vital services to Downtown’s 21,000 workers, 900 businesses and
1,500 residents,” said DGI President and CEO, Ed Wolverton. “This breakfast is a humble
token to express our thanks for all of their efforts and let these hard working people know
that their work is appreciated,” he said.

City officials and noted public figures are expected to attend the breakfast and honor
Downtown’s finest in cleanliness and public safety. Photo opportunities will be available.

DGI’s Clean and Green Team provides supplemental service to the City of Greensboro’s
sanitation department. The team works under DGI’s direction seven days a week to keep
Downtown sidewalks and buildings free of litter, cigarette butts and graffiti. The crew also
cleans tree wells, steam cleans and power washes sidewalks, removes ice and snow and installs
and maintains the hanging flower baskets that adorn several Downtown streets from May to
October annually.

As part of the continued effort to ensure the safety of Downtown visitors, workers and
merchants, the Center City Resource Team and the Community Resource Team of the
Greensboro Police Department, patrols and monitors the Downtown district. The
uniformed officers often travel by bike and segways and to offer greater visibility and public
