									Candidate Assessment
Challenge
You need to assess the ability of each relocating employee and their family to adapt to his/her
global assignment and to provide developmental feedback.

Solution
Based on an original study of more than 5,500 assignees worldwide, the Overseas Assignment
Inventory (OAI) Assessment and Development Tool was developed to identify personal attitudes
and attributes that impact an expatriate's success or failure in another culture. Through the use of
the validated proprietary development tool the OAI, Prudential Relocation can help you ascertain
which of your candidates are most suitable for global assignments.

The OAI evaluates 14 distinct attributes including: expectations, flexibility, initiative,
interpersonal interest, open-mindedness, patience, personal control, respect for others’ beliefs,
risk-taking, sense of humor, social adaptability, spouse communication, tolerance, and trust.

The OAI is effectively utilized in the following ways:
■ Integrated into customized intercultural training programs
■ As part of an assessment program for candidate’s self-selection, for development of a
selected candidate or as part of a larger selection process
■ As an assessment service which includes administration of the OAI behavioral interviewing
and OAI debrief, with relocating employee spouse report recommendations returned to the
  client
■ On client request, Prudential Relocation can provide a Certification and Training Workshop
to certify client human resource representatives to conduct interview assessments and
  provide the OAI debriefing
Country profiles are used to determine the countries and cultures in which employees could be
most productive and to provide greater understanding of challenges and development needs in
relation to a particular country of assignment. We provide recommendations for specific training
resources and support to be carried through the duration of the assignment.

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Reduces risks of failed assignments
■ Prepares relocating employees for the upcoming assignment
■ Saves time and money putting the right relocating employee in place the first time

                                                 1
Compensation Administration
Challenge
You need a third party to manage the various components of compensation and administration
including purchasing differential tables, managing the subscription ordering process, making
payments to suppliers, calculating allowances, and housing and utility differentials and standards.

Solution

including working with your designated cost of living adjustment (COLA) supplier and tax
service provider to give cost of living, housing and hypothetical tax data to your relocating

compensation balance sheet.

and concerns to the client for review and discussion, if appropriate

preventing the need for retroactive payments

Cost Management
Challenge
You need expenses reviewed for accuracy and compliance with your company’s relocation policy.
Additionally, the expenses must be tracked and reported to enable you to efficiently budget and
manage your relocation program.

Solution

functions and incorporate all your cost objectives. We can track all relocation-related expenses
and activities to provide you with a clear and detailed view of your overall expenditures.

Our cost-management eliminates the need for you to commit internal resources to updating due
to domestic tax law changes, processing individual reimbursements or producing year-end reports
for assignment expenses and budgeting. Our cost management staff will:
■ Review assignment expenses for accuracy and compliance with your policy and/or
  assignment letter
■ Disburse funds to your relocating employee within five to seven business days of receipt of
an approved expense report, via check or wire transfer

  disbursements via wire transfer only)

Cost Projections
Challenge
You need pre-initiation or post-initiation cost projections that are necessary for a successful
relocation.

Solution
Prudential Relocation produces the cost projection based on the parameters of the client’s policy
and required service. Cost estimates are derived from household goods carriers, in-house travel,
the Internet, and historical data. We will determine what services are needed based on each
client’s policy. Our cost estimates include projections that can be used to set relocation budgets
and monitor expenses. They do not include tax advice or cost assumptions associated with tax
issues.

Prudential Relocation will:
■ Derive cost estimates based on the unique characteristics of the assignment, for example
departure and destination countries, number of family members relocating and the relocating
  employee’s base salary
■ Recommend ways to generate cost savings and diminish policy exceptions
■ Interface with major accounting firms and other tax providers as requested

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Customizes projections to client policy and individual needs
■ Targets programs to meet client’s cost objectives
■ Provides personalized customer service

                                                  4
Destination Services
Challenge
Your company needs destination assistance for global assignments. Rapid adjustment to a new
location is key to establishing a strong foundation for successful assignments.

Solution
Our international assignment managers (IAMs) are focused on supporting your relocating
employees’ assimilation efforts by helping family members adapt to their new destination. With
our needs assessment as a guide, the IAM develops a customized itinerary for service
implementation in the destination country. We have created a Destination Services Program that
takes into account different service needs and financial resources for relocating employees leaving
or entering the United States, as well as point-to-point assignments outside of the United States.

Clients can select from the following elements for their destination packages, based on their
particular needs:
■ Pre-assignment Visit—Gives the relocating employee an overview of life in a foreign
destination and is often used as part of the relocating employee’s decision-making process; It
is not intended to be a detailed home search, but to provide the employee with a sampling of
the type of homes that are typically available
■ Home Finding Assistance—Identifies the most appropriate housing for the relocating
employee’s needs; Prudential Relocation acts as an advocate for the employee during the
process to make sure that all requirements are met; We will negotiate competitive pricing on
behalf of your relocating employees for apartment rents, lease terms, security deposits,
application fees, and furniture/houseware rentals when appropriate; We will qualify each
apartment community to meet our quality service expectations; The relocating employee will
gain from our experience, knowledge and objectivity
■ Settling-in/Mentoring—Assists the relocating employee and his/her family with settling-
in⎯acquainting the relocating employee with the area and its resources and helping him/her
to quickly reach a normal level of productivity; The consultant is the face-to-face resource for
relocating employees and their families, acting as an advocate, professional friend and cultural
translator, as directed by the Prudential Relocation IAM; Home finding assistance is not
  provided with this program
■ Educational Consulting—Conducts a needs assessment with the family, discusses past and
present school system differences, discusses available specific school options, provides the
  family with new school information, and arranges appointments at new schools as needed;
The consulting program also includes assistance with testing information, application
materials, follow up on complete admission process, and to help the family through the
  admissions process through placement

                                                5
■ Comprehensive Destination Services—Combines the home finding, settling-in and
educational assistance; The goal of this program is to provide comprehensive services that
help the relocating employee and his/her families successfully adjust and function in the new
assignment location as quickly as possible
■ Departure Package—Streamlines the return of the relocating employee to the home country
by assisting with the activities required to separate the family from the residence, services and
organization; A key benefit of the program includes the negotiation for the return of the
  security deposit; In many countries, a three-month to one-year security deposit is customary;
Without proper procedures and negotiations, substantial portions of a security deposit may
  be lost

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Increases relocating employee productivity
■ Promotes relocating employee and family satisfaction
■ Maintains an extensive network of destination service alliances to compliment services
  delivered by our international offices

family’s visit to the schools; Assistance is available as needed
■ Provide school placement, an optional service where the consultant becomes an advocate for
  the family to the school by supporting them throughout the admission/placement process;
The consultant is available for assistance on an as needed basis for as long as it takes to
complete the placement (provided at an additional fee)

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Decreases family and relocating employee anxiety over assignment
■ Provides reliable, knowledgeable and professional guidance
■ Lessens relocating employee workload before move

Program Management
Challenge
You need to provide full management of all relocation program components to your relocating
employees and their families. Additionally, you need your relocating employees to have a
thorough understanding of the relocation process and their particular policy guidelines.

Solution
For global relocation assignments, Prudential Relocation provides a comprehensive management
package for administering every program and policy component for you and your relocating
employee. Program management begins with total policy counseling to provide your relocating
employees with a comprehensive review of all program benefits. Our international assignment
managers (IAMs) have the experience and training to help relocating employees identify special
concerns and issues and then will work with you to provide proactive solutions to prevent later
requests for costly policy exceptions. All services included in the program are reviewed, giving the
relocating employee a thorough knowledge of the program. The IAM will:
■ Conduct a thorough needs assessment and identify any special needs or concerns of the
relocating employee and/or family at the start of the process
■ Explain all relevant features of the policy to the relocating employee
■ Advise and set realistic expectations with the relocating employee regarding process and
timing of activities during the transition to the new assignment location
■ Coordinate orientation with the tax provider
■ Manage any exceptions to the policy
■ Establish internal services, such as: intercultural, transportation, home management, etc.
■ Initiate services to external suppliers, such as destination consultants
■ Provide ongoing follow-up with the relocating employee
■ Support the employee through the first year of the assignment

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Lessens your tactical burden, allowing for strategic use of time
■ Provides greater opportunity for successful assignments
■ Gives relocating employee and their families a dedicated, customer-focused
  advocate throughout the process

Repatriation and Reassignment
Challenge
Your company needs a program to address cultural changes, support retention and provide a tool
for extracting and reinvesting your relocating employees’ knowledge.

Solution
Prudential Relocation’s repatriation program eases the transition to life back home. After
spending time internationally, relocating employees are often unaware of current events and
cultural changes that may have occurred at your company and in their home countries. Our
repatriation program begins with an initiation and a needs assessment questionnaire similar to the
initiation we provide to relocating employees at the beginning of an assignment. This gives the
employee and family the opportunity to “capture the experiences” of the assignment and begin
preparing to leave while still in-country. Our team then designs a program to be delivered within
six weeks of the family’s arrival in the home country. Participants examine problems of
readjustment and explore ways of dealing with their country, themselves and their families during
their absence. They anticipate and make provisions for the personal and professional impact
these changes will have on their lives and future.

At the conclusion of the program, Prudential Relocation submits a report on each participant and
family. The report includes:
■ Feedback to the client on the repatriation experience of the relocating employee and family
■ Identification of career planning needs for the relocating employee and spouse/partner
■ Summary of the relocating employee’s international business skills which the client may wish
to use to plan future assignments
■ Recommendations for addressing assignment issues

In some instances, relocating employees are sent to another assignment immediately, rather than
returning to their home country. Prudential Relocation can provide the training and development
necessary to make this follow up assignment a success.

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Increases relocating employee retention
■ Identifies new career-pathing opportunities for newly obtained skills and knowledge
■ Promotes simple and timely transition for relocating employee and family

Short-term Assignments
Challenge
You have been charged with the task of achieving international objectives while reducing
international assignment costs. In order to do this, you need to implement and manage
alternative and flexible international assignment options.

Solution
As organizations focus more on cost-management strategies and the need for increased flexibility
for the global workforce, alternative transfer types are becoming more prevalent in place of the
traditional, long-term international assignment. As these alternative transfer types gain
momentum, organizations will be faced with the challenge and necessity of developing policies
for them. Global Policy Development is the answer for short-term assignments, extended
international business travel and other alternative assignments.

Prudential Relocation’s Global Consulting Group is comprised of consultants who specialize in
human resources, global communications, project management, organizational and financial
assessment, research, and international assignment program and policy development. We work
with over 200 companies per year, giving us access to the most up-to-date information regarding
trends, issues and practices. All of this is put to use in delivering strategically sound, cost-effective
and quality-driven solutions to meet your organizational development objectives. We will:
■ Develop a cost-effective manual for managers of international business travelers that merge
elements of the company’s international assignment policy and the company’s corporate
  travel policy
■ Create a provision-by-provision benchmarking report or a comprehensive review and
recommendations report to assess the competitiveness of existing short-term assignment
  policies
■ Design relocating employee-friendly programs and policies to meet the diverse needs of your
global workforce, including short-term assignment policies, commuter assignment policies
and other policies to support your company’s alternative assignment types

The Prudential Relocation Advantage
■ Increases relocating employee satisfaction through the development of competitive
  and consistent policies
■ Assures personal security and global awareness when traveling or relocating
  internationally
■ Identifies cost-savings opportunities
