  Climate Change Workshop
The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism is holding a free
climate change workshop in Adelaide on 8 July to provide the most up-to-
date information to the tourism industry on what climate change means and
what you need t o do to deal with it. This practical and hands-on workshop
will give you the specific skills and tools that you need to deal with climate
change and how you can minimise the impact on your business. To find

Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism – Australian Tourism Exchange
Roz was in Melbourne last week representing Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism
at the Australian Tourism Exchange (A TE).            ATE is the southern
hemisphere’s largest tourism trade s how. It provides a forum for A ustralian
tourism businesses and regions to showcase their product, meet overseas
contacts and negotiate business deals. Fleurieu P eninsula Tourism met
with over 120 int ernational buyers and Aussie S pecialists Travel Agents
from both Eastern and Western Hemispheres. In addition to selling the
region Roz represented over 13 local operators. It was really import ant to
leverage off the Kangaroo Island international profile and educ ate people to
create an association with the two regions and encourage overnight stays
in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Roz also promoted the Melbourne Adelaide
Touring Rout e.

Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism – Food and Wine Industry Prospectus
A Food and Wine Working Group was recently commissioned by the
Minister’s Roundtable to provide a focus to this sector of the industry to
help improve its product, distribution and marketing. The group of industry
representatives have worked with the SA TC to develop a specific
prospectus of opportunities to enable food and wine operators to work in
collaboration with the SA TC in 2009-10. If your business fits into the food

Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism – Murray River Vi sitor Guide Rundle Mall
The Murray River Visitor Guide promotion was held in Rundle Mall on
Wednesday 10 June. The event was attended by Hon Jane Lomax -
Smith, Minister for Tourism and Andrew McE voy, CEO of South Australian
Tourism Commission. The Fleurieu Peninsula was represented by Roz
Becker (Fleurieu P eninsula Tourism), Melissa Little (Club Marina Holidays
and The Marina Hindmars h Island), Petrea Bartlett (Spirit of the Coorong),
Melanie Kempe (Langhorne Creek Wine Region), Anne McLennan
(Cleggett Wines), Judy Cross (Angas Plains Estate) and Wendy Watson
(Boathouse Birks Harbour). Although it was cold, it was still lots of fun and
provided a great value for money promotional opportunity for the Fleurieu
Peninsula and Lower Murray Lakes areas. A big thank you goes out to
those who volunt eered on the day.

Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism – Prints of Whales Competition
Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism and the South Australian Whale Centre will be
running the Prints of Whales Competition throughout the whale season.
Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are being invited t o
photograph these magnificent animals of th e deep, during their annual
migration to t he waters of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The Prints of Whales
competition has two categories with the winner of each category receiving a
cash prize of $1000. Finalists of each category will also be eligible for the

The Southern Ocean Cruising concept is now a reality, with North Star
Cruis es and the Athena both offering cruises departing from Outer Harbor
next season and t he Orion also making the t rip from Melbourne to Adelaide

South Australian Tourism Industry Council (SATIC)
Gain a better understanding of the new tourism industry body – the Sout h
Australian Tourism Industry Council. During the months of June and July,
SATIC will run a series of free networking sessions around the regions
outlining the role of SA TIC and its key programs, including tourism awards
and Australian tourism accreditation program. This is a great opportunity to
meet the new team, see what you can bec ome involved in and how SA TIC
can benefit you. A seminar will be held in the Fleurieu Peninsula on

State Tourism Awards
The State’s best tourism operators are being encouraged t o enter the 2009
South Australian Tourism Awards with nominations now open. Entry is
open to all Sout h Australian tourism operators, with 27 categories including
accommodation, tour and transport operators, wineries, restau rants,
events, tourism marketing and attractions. Nominations close on 10 July
and submissions are due by 17 August. The A wards Presentation and
Gala Dinner will be held on Saturday 7 November at the Adelaide
