                  TOUR DE FRANCE CYCLE CHALLENGE
                           TRAVEL NOTES
We trust that the following information will help you prepare for your Tour de France Cycle Challenge adventure.

PASSPORTS: A valid full passport is required. Please ensure that your passport has not expired.

CURRENCY: The unit of currency is Euros. The current exchange rate is approximately 1.25Euros = £1. If you
have not changed money before leaving then there is an exchange point at the airport.

We DO NOT recommend that you bring travellers cheques. You will find that you won¹t have time to change
them during the ride.

TIME ZONE: France is on central European time, which is 1hr ahead of the UK.

TELEPHONE: Please note that when telephoning the UK from France, the dialling code is 00 44 + the code
without the 0 followed by the number you want to call.

BACK UP VEHICLES: There will be 2 back up vehicles & a van for transferring luggage. The 2 people carrier
type vehicles will be used as back up during the rides, should anyone have physical or mechanical trouble, whilst
the van will take luggage from hotel to hotel.

YOUR LUGGAGE: There is NOT unlimited amounts of space available on the car and back up van for luggage &
bikes. Therefore please keep you luggage to a minimum i.e. 1 medium suitcase per person. Any excess than this
will be refused on pick up.

YOUR BIKE: Please have it serviced before you leave, either by yourself or the local bike shop. If you don¹t it
could spoil your holiday.

BIKE BAGS: We insist that if you are bringing a bike on tour, that it be packed in a bike bag with both wheels out
ready to load onto the van. If you haven¹t done so already these can be hired or purchased from ourselves.
The bike fits into a bike bag upside down with both wheels out and strapped to either side of the frame. There is
no need to take off the rear mech, pedals, etc.

GEARS We recommend a lowest gear of at least 42 x 34 or 39 x 30, but it also depends upon your fitness. If you
have a triple chainset, it would be worth putting it on your bike. The climbs are very difficult and very long. The
Tour de France riders will use a 39 x 25 and they are racing !!!

CLOTHING The weather in the Pyrenees can not be guaranteed especially at the begining of September. We
have operated cycle tours in the Alps & Pyrenees for a number of years now, and seen all types of weather,
Rain, 30º of Sun, and hail & snow. Therefore you need to take enough clothing to be prepared for all types of
weather. Therefore we recommend that you bring the following:

2 pairs shorts, long tights, arm & leg warmers, cape, hat, gloves, 2 or 3 short sleeved jerseys, even thermals !! In
the mountains it can be quite cool, even on warm days, and the descents even more so. Therefore you need to
be protected against the elements.
