Express senior management commitment to this program.
EMPLOYER is firmly committed to supporting your health and well-being through a series
of healthy lifestyle initiatives. This includes educating our work place community on the
prevention of domestic violence.
Briefly describe what domestic violence is—start building awareness!
Domestic violence is a pattern of assaultive and coercive behaviors used by an individual
with the willful int ent of hurting, dominating, and controlling an intimate partner or family
member. Domestic violenc e is about power and control. Domestic violence occurs in all
social, ethnic and cultural groups, between married, dating and committed couples.
Identify why preventing domestic violence is important to your workplace.
Millions of Americans are profoundly affected by this k ind of violence. Some estimates
indicate that four million American women experience a serious assault by an intimate
partner during an average 12-mont h period. In 2001 alone, more than 1,300 murders in
the United States were committed by a spouse or intim ate partner; this number equates
to nearly four murders a day. And domestic violence doesn’t stay home. It can—and
does—spill over into the work place and become disruptive to the work environment.
