A word from Judy……
Hi everyone

The Beijing Olympics had everyone glued to the TV screen and it also
made us interested in all things Chinese. And this year some of our
best children’s books have a Chinese theme. The Children’s Council of
Australia’s Book of the Year for Younger Readers was Dragon Moon by
Carole Wilkinson. The Peasant Prince by a famous Chinese ballet
dancer, Li Cunxin, about his childhood in China was also an honour
book in the Picture Book of the Year Awards.

So, we have decided to have some Chinese craft in our Spring holiday
program. We will be making plum blossom decorations in one session
and a simple dragon mask kite in another.

Then we will be welcoming Lily Wu who is a fourteen year old author of
a book called The Peacock Dance. Lily learnt ballet to help her get well
and she will perform a Peacock dance for us and read from her book.
Her mother is the illustrator of the book and she will teach us how to
draw a peacock. Copies of books by Lily Wu and her father Di Wu will
be available to buy. Lily’s book is a Premier’s Reading Challenge book
for K-2 years.

We will also be running a Manga cartoon workshop with Cartoon Dave,
postponed from the July holidays. Dave is lots of fun and has some lots
of drawing ideas. If you had tickets for one of the July sessions you will
need to re-book but there will be no extra charge. Just bring your
ticket along when you book at any branch of the library. If you didn’t
have a ticket last time, get booked into the session these holidays and
learn heaps from Dave.
