Overview of why we hang what we hang at the bedside; the different types of parenteral solutions and their indications; complications of specific solutions and particular solutions to give for a specific patient condition. What solutions are contraindicated in a patient with certain diseases. Why you can’t hang Ringers Lactate to a patient with liver disease or an alkalotic patient or why is .45% Saline contraindicated for a patient with cerebral edema.

Overview of the assessment techniques utilized with neurologically injured patients, along with disputing those “we’ve always done it this way” methods. Attendees will refine their assessment proficiencies, while learning the latest research.
9:45 am – 11:15 am: • Care of the Pediatric Patient in the “Big People” ICU
When one is asked to care for a pediatric patient, especially one that is critically ill, anxiety and fear can be typical responses. Children have many of the same diseases and conditions as adults, and the assessment and management principles will differ in some areas, yet be very similar in others. This lecture will review the essential components of a rapid pediatric assessment, along with “just like adults” treatment tips to allow for the best possible care in stressful situations. The target audience is critical care nurses (adult) that may be asked to care for children in their units.

It is time to call into question and discuss the state of healthcare and the impact it has on the bedside nurse. The fight must begin more for the patient centered, humane healthcare and an environment for nurses to deliver safe patient care. This session focuses on “what nurses need…what nurses want.”

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations must be submitted in writing and received THREE MONTHS PRIOR to departure date a full refund minus $30 processing fee. Cancellations WITHIN THREE MONTHS of vacation, no refunds are given, substitutions permitted with a $50 name change fee. Please note that there is a $50 fee for changing roommates and room assignments. In addition we cannot guarantee special requests, such as room locations, adjoining rooms, ocean view, etc.
