Ideas for the hard-to-buy-for: parents
By Andrew B. The Jolly Roger It's that time of year again, and many students at Jack Britt can’t wait to open their presents. Christmas Day is a wonderful one, full of both giving and receiving. But do you ever have trouble deciding what to get you parents for Christmas? Here are some ideas from the students at Jack Britt. Many students at Jack Britt believe that jewelry is the way to their mothers’ hearts. Sophomore John S. plans to buy his mother a necklace. Sophomore Colin L. chose to purchase earrings for his mother. For the fathers of Jack Britt students, it seems that sports apparel is a popular choice. Jessica and sophomore Nick N. plan to buy football jerseys for their dads. “I’m going to buy Dallas cowboy stuff for my dad because it’s his favorite team,” said freshman Jessica C. There is no going wrong with your dad’s favorite sports team. If you are still unsure, try buying a simple clothing item, such as a tie. Some students are opting for homemade gifts this year. Junior Tempest B. and her sister, sophomore Erica B., will cook a nice breakfast for their mother on Christmas Day, as well as treat her to a spa day. Sophomore David L. plans to make a keychain for his parents. Junior Yamali C. is giving her mom a slightly more lasting gift this year. “I’m moving back to Panama this Christmas to live with my mother,” she said. Even the faculty members at Jack Britt have plans for their parents' gifts this Christmas. Mr. Howell, the data manager and registrar at Jack Britt, is buying a scooter for his father, who is disabled and has emphysema. For his mother, he plans to buy an angel figurine because she enjoys collecting angels. With all these gift ideas, it may seem a bit hard to decide just what to get your parents this holiday season. You don’t have to spend over $100 on something fancy. Most parents would enjoy getting any gift from their children. After all, it’s the thought that counts.
