HOROSCOPE MATCHING - AN INTRODUCTION
Horoscope Matching is an effort using astrological principles to increase the
happiness in marriage and to help maintain a good relationship in marriage.
In order to do this we have to pass through 4 TESTs. They are:
TEST 1: Nakshatra Match. Whether the birth star of both boy & girl match?
TEST 2: Mangal Dosha check. Popularly known as Kuja Dosha or Chevvai Dosha
TEST 3: Dasha Sandhi check. See whether a Dasha starts within 6 Months.
TEST 4: Dosha Samyam check. Whether there is equal dosha on marriage house.
If result under any TEST, is FAIL then there is no need to proceed to the
next TEST. If we pass through TEST 1 successfully, then we will proceed to
TEST 2 and so on. If we reach TEST 4 and pass TEST 4 then we will declare the
Match is Good.
To a large extent the QUALITY of marriage is prefixed based on past Karma.
From that point we can increase the quality of marriage by proper horoscope
Matching & if the horoscopes are not matched it will decrease the quality or
happiness in Marriage.
TEST : 1. NAKSHATRA MATCH
NAKSHATRA MATCH: The fundamental Test in Horoscope Matching is the Nakshatra
Match. Here we use the weightage method. Under this scheme the maximum is
36 points. If you score 18 or above then we shall proceed to the next TEST.
If the score is less than 18 then we will reject the match straightaway.
But please understand that even if you get more than 18, the matching may
get rejected due to other reasons. In short this TEST is used to short list
the prospective marriage partner only and not for approving of the match.

TEST 2: MANGAL DOSHA (CHEVVAI DOSHAM/KUJA DOSHAM)
KUJA DOSHAM is said to occur when Kuja or Mars occupies the 2nd, 4th, 12th,
7th and 8th houses counting from Lagna (Lagna is 1st house). If Kuja (Mars)
occupies the 1st house, most of the astrologers are of the opinion that
Kuja (Mars) in the 1st house also causes Kuja Dosha as Kuja from the 1st
house aspects the 7th house of marriage and 8th house of mangalya for the
bride. PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY BHAVA CHART IS TO BE USED AND NOT RASHI CHART.
If KUJA occupies any of these houses then you are termed a Manglik in North
India and in South India it is called a Kuja Dosha Horoscope.
If you do suffer from this dosha then what are the implications?
The ancient masters said that if you have this dosha then you MUST marry
a person having the same dosha or blemish. Something like a double negative
makes a positive. The reason is that this dosha is said to make a person
lose his/her spouse by death.
This dosha is said to be cancelled if KUJA(Mars) is close to Guru (Jupiter)
or Sukra (Venus).

TEST 4: DOSHA SAMYAM
The house of marriage in any horoscope is the 7th house. Count Lagna itself
as house 1 always. Then count clockwise in the Bhava Chart until you reach
the 7th house. This is house contains most of the information about your
married life. Malefics like Kuja, Ravi, Sani, Rahu and Ketu if they occupy
your 7th house increases the blemish or Dosha on your marriage house. The
ideal condition is both the bride and bridgegroom must have somewhat the
same or at least near about similar influences of malefics in both the
horoscopes. For woman (stri jataka) the 8th house is also important since
it is called the MANGALYA STHANA or the house of the sacred thread of
marriage which is tied around the neck of the woman at the time of
marriage. If the woman has no malefics influencing the 7th and 8th houses
then the Man must also have a similar chart. This is the logic of Dosha
Samyam. It is like in the case of See-Saw game we used to play wherein we
preferred a person with similar body weight on the opposite side to enable
us to play the game more harmoniously. Here we are attempting the same.
Instead of the weight of the person here are considering the influence of
planets on the house of marriage.
In the same way as Malefics like Ravi, Kuja, Sani etc, afflict the house of
marriage, natural Benefics like Guru and Sukra the planets which give good
effects when influencing the houses of marriage will automatically reduce
the malefic influences of other malefics to the level they can. So in the
following 2 table we give both the results and then finally will let you
know the NET result after Substracting the Benefic Influence from the
Malefic Influence. This is the final Malefic (negative) influence.
