IBM Recognizes Physicians Mutual for Excellence in Innovation
Omaha, Neb., February 10, 2009 – Physicians Mutual’s business transformation
program, Greenfield, was recently recognized for ingenuity and excellence at IBM’s
“Information On Demand Conference.” The Innovation Awards, presented at this
conference, recognize IBM’s top innovators who improve business efficiency and
provide a competitive edge for their company. Physicians Mutual received the top honor
in the category of Best Information as a Service Solution.
“As we move toward a more customercentric business, we have designed an
‘information first’ strategy that cultivates close collaboration between the business and
IT,” said Dan Simpson, Sr. VP and Chief Information Officer. “This approach fosters
creative technology solutions that deliver information more quickly, offers customers
and agents more flexibility in how they interact with us, and enables us to stay on top of
a rapidlychanging market.”
Physicians Mutual was specifically recognized for its Customer Information
Management projects. Using an innovative data integration method, these projects
simplified a complex and risky process of legacy system integration with new systems.
As a result, the company now has a blueprint for a single and consistent view of critical
business information, including a comprehensive view of individual customer
demographic data. This blueprint facilitates better business decisions and a better
understanding of customer preferences, which, in turn, will allow us to achieve even
higher levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
