1. NO TOPPING UP REQUIRED A special chemical reaction called the oxygen cycle recombines the gasses generated at the plates into electrolyte. This will prevent the electrolyte reduction. Thus, no topping up of the battery is required. 2. POSITION FREE Since the electrolyte is absorbed into the fiber separators between the plates and hold by the separators, the shield battery can be placed at any angle without risk of electrolyte leak. 3. COMPACT Shield battery is compact in comparison with an ordinary type battery since free space above the electrolyte level and projection for the breather hose is not required. 4. SUPERIOR CRANKING PERFORMANCE Cranking performance with a starter motor is superior in comparison with an ordinary battery of which capacity is equivalent. 5. LOW SELF-DISCHARGE Self-discharge rate is very low on the shield battery due to the lead-calcium alloy of the plate grid (framework holding the active material of the positive and negative plates). Lead-antimony alloy is used for the plate grid of ordinary type battery. 6. NO INITIAL CHARGE REQUIRED Shield battery is instantly activated and installed into motorcycle shortly after filling with electrolyte. However, initial charge is required in the cases described in the shield battery service procedure.

7. STRONG FOR DEEP CYCLE USE Ordinary batteries deteriorate quickly under a deep-discharged condition. Shield battery is strong enough for deep cycle use.




Remove the aluminum tape sealing the battery filler holes.

CHECK POINT Air sucking sound should be heard when removing the sealing tape. If no air sucking sound is heard, the sealing tape has been removed or broken. In this case, initial charge is required after filling

the battery with electrolyte and inserting the top cap firmly.




① Remove the caps from the electrolyte container. ② While holding the electrolyte container in the inverted position, press it down into the battery filler ports to break the container seals. ③ Make sure that air bubbles are coming up to each section of the electrolyte container, and leave it in this position. ④ If no bubbles are coming up from some filler ports, tap the upper face of the container two or three times. Never remove the container from the battery. CORRECT INCORRECT




① After checking that all of the electrolyte has entered the battery, remove the container from the battery. ② Wait for around 20 minutes. This waiting time is needed to stabilize the battery voltage. ③ Insert the top cap firmly. Make sure that whole the top cap does not protrude above the upper surface of the battery top cover. CAUTION Once installed the top cap, never remove the top cap for any reason. Never add water or acid to an s h i e l d battery during its service life.




INITIAL CHARGE ① Initial charging is recommended after filling the battery with electrolyte and inserting the top cap firmly to ensure the battery fully charged condition. ② Charging time decided by charger automatically. Approx. 3 – 4 Hours ③ In the following cases or if the battery terminal voltage is less than 12.5V, initial charge is required. Condition requiring initial charge - At low temperature (below 0°C) - Battery has been stored under high temperature and humidity. - Sealing tape has been removed or broken. - Battery more than 2 years after manufacture Manufacturing date is indicated on battery top.

REFRESHING CHARGE If battery become weak, refreshing charge is required. ① Apply soapsuds to the top cap area. ② If any bubbles come out from the top cap area during the refreshing charge, replace the battery. ③ After completion of the refreshing charge, wait for 30 minutes and check the battery terminal voltage. ④ If the terminal voltage is less than 12.5V, charge again. ⑤ If the terminal voltage is less than 12.0V, replace the battery. The battery has terminated its service life.


1. Never use a hitting tool like a hammer when inserting the sealing cap. Hard hitting may break the sealing construction. 2. Never remove the sealing cap during the refreshing charge.
If by any chance that an excessive amount gas is generated due to an overcharging, the safety valve provided in the battery operates to keep the battery safe.

3. No topping-up is required for entire service life.
Never remove the sealing cap forcedly to add water. It is very dangerous.

4. Never use ordinary battery electrolyte (specific gravity 1.28) for shield battery. Electrolyte container supplied with a new shield battery has a specific gravity is 1.32 and the container
is filled up with proper quantity of electrolyte suitable for each battery size. The ordinary electrolyte will spoil the battery performance. 5. Use the battery charger YUASA MB-2012A. Over-discharged MF battery may have too high internal resistance to charge with normal charging voltage (16-17V). Even in this condition, this battery charger can restore it by applying high voltage (20V) in the first step. And then, after the current flow, the charging voltage is automatically reduced to normal charging voltage to prevent the over charging. 6. Charge the battery one by one. Never connect two or more batteries to the battery charger YUASA MB-2012A.
