                       National Youth Leadership Training
                             December 26th, 2005
What Is National Youth Leader Training? - National Youth Leadership Training is a seven-day, six-night outdoor experience for
youth leaders in support of the Scoutmaster’s responsibility for the training of troop youth leaders. Built on the legacy of past JLT
successes, the new syllabus integrates the best of modern leadership theory with the traditional strengths of the Scouting
experience. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged
in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skills and confidence to lead well. Through a wide range of activities,
events, games, and adventures, NYLT participants will work and play together as they put into action the best that Scouting has to
offer. The Clinton Valley Council, using a nationally approved outline under the leadership of quality volunteers, conducts the
conference.

What Are The Conference Objectives? - The conference gives participants:
• The confidence and knowledge to run the troop program.
• A working knowledge of the skills needed for leadership and help the Scouts relate these skills in their troop responsibility.
• The opportunity to share ideas and experiences with Scouts from other troops.
• The creation of an atmosphere where Scouts will experience Scouting at its best.
• The enhancement of the relationship between the participant and his Scoutmaster.
• The opportunity to have fun.

Who May Attend? - The conference will be open to Boy Scouts who meet the following criteria:
• At least 13 years old by December 26th, 2005.
• At least First Class rank.
• Currently serving in a troop position of responsibility (or have the skills and abilities to do so in the future).
• Previous long-term camping experience.
• Be recommended/approved by his Scoutmaster (Experience tells us that the amount of benefit a young man will get from the
course is directly proportional to his level of maturity, attitude and focus).

Is The Home Scoutmaster Involved? - Very much so. It is expected that the troop Scoutmaster, or other designated adult scout
leader, will work with the scouts prior to the conference to provide them with the basics of leadership. There are certain outdoor
skills that need to be mastered prior to coming to camp. It is strongly recommended that participants be graduates of the Troop
Junior Leader Training. The Scoutmaster’s role is critical to the success of the youth Scout leader in implementing their goals.
Scoutmasters will be invited to a feast on Friday evening of the conference that has been prepared by the conference participants.
After the feast, a training session for Scoutmasters will take place to review everything that has been done during the conference
and what he/she can do to support and utilize the newly trained youth leaders.

What's The Date? - NYLT will open on Monday, December 26th, 2005 and conclude on Saturday, December 31st, 2005.
Participants should plan to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the opening day. Scouts will be ready to depart at
approximately 11:30 a.m. on the final day after the clean-up and closing ceremony.

What's The Location? - The NYLT Conference for 2005 will be held at Camp Green-Dickson. (Alternate TBD)

What's The Cost? - The cost for the conference is $175.00 per scout. This includes all food, camping equipment (except bedding),
program, and training materials, graduation t-shirt and cap. Additional information will be mailed directly to each Scout and
