IX. Course Description
This cohort includes 2 one-day learning and working sessions to create and implement the NCSD
district improvement plan in Goal Setting II. All curricular areas will be involved in the
implementation of the plan. Follow-up will include differentiated coaching, reflection and
collegial conversations regarding the implementation of the Goal Setting II plan. Participants in
this course will actively engage in the implementation of the NCSD Goal Setting II in their
educational setting throughout the Fall 2009 semester and will create an action plan for
continued implementation into the Spring 2010 and beyond.
X. Sessions: Dates, Times, and Topics
All Topic Instruction Sessions (1:1 ratio)
August 10 & 11 training,
8:00 to 3:00 pm - 6 hours per day
Goal Setting II instruction from a guest speaker.
All Group Follow Up Sessions (1:1 ratio)
In like groups participants will share actions plans created in August and will reflect upon
implementation of Goal Setting II to date. Participants will share 1) with a partner, 2) in
groups of four, and 3) with the whole group to encourage candid, safe dialogue and to
determine common successes, challenges, and needs.
Individualized Differentiated Coaching/Collaborative Dialog and Action Planning
Number of contact hours and how to log it.
Participants will engage in individualized coaching sessions to implement the course
objectivies in their work setting, for three or more hours (3:1 time) each month during the
months August through April. These coaching sessions will be used to facilitate teachers
(participants) planning for further implementation of Goal Setting, dialoging with the
instructional facilitator or peer, and/or determining classroom modeling and next steps.
Dialog will center around the following questions: 1) What implementation strategies
were successful? 2) What challenges have you faced that are preventing you from
moving forward? 3) What are possible solutions to these challenges? 4) What are next
steps toward further implementation of the Goal Setting II in your classroom?
Participants will model successful strategies for one another, generalize learning across grade
levels and content areas, and further define implementation efforts
