The job                 We are looking to appoint four bright, enthusiastic and pro-active
                        individuals to join our S.T.A.R.T (Secretarial Training & Recruitment)
                        Programme, initially on a 12 month rotational training basis in our
                        Company and Commercial, Litigation, Wealth Management and
                        Commercial Property Departments, with a view to progression to Junior
                        Secretary in a designated department following successful completion of
                        the training period.
Key responsibilities
                        Over the 12 month training period the programme supports the
                        development of highly skilled secretaries through on the job learning and
                        formal training. The role, reporting to each Department’s Support
                        Manager, delivers secretarial services to a wide range of fee earners and
                        deals with work of a varied nature whilst you are working towards
                        developing the skills and competencies required to progress within the
                        training programme.

Job Title              :     Trainee Legal Secretary

1. Job Purpose

To take guidance from the secretarial team and the Support Manager to enable basic confidential
secretarial and administrative tasks to be performed, whilst demonstrating a willingness to learn
and develop.

2. Key Accountabilities (main responsibilities)

•   Support secretaries with routine office procedures to gain an appreciation and understanding of

•   Develop IT and secretarial skills, participating in formal, ongoing training when necessary.

2. Dimensions (any numerical information relating to the job)

There will be one Trainee Legal Secretary per department on a three month x 4 rotational
programme.      They will report directly to the Support Managers and individual departmental
secretarial mentors. This is primarily an on-the-job learning role and the individual is not assigned
to any fee earner(s) but will be taking instruction from and assisting a team of secretaries. It is
envisaged that the individual will stay in this role for 12 months dependent upon speed of

4. Knowledge / Experience / Skills Needed (the knowledge, skills and experience required to
undertake the role)

   •   Good standard of education with a minimum of three GCSEs (grade A-C) including English
       Language and Mathematics.

   •   Sound grasp of literacy and numeracy

   •   Prior work experience in an office environment (school, work experience etc).

The individual will possess a willingness to learn and a common sense approach to dealing with
everyday tasks. They should be literate and able to confidently work with basic numeracy. Their
keyboard skills should be at a level to satisfy basic requirements and to enable progression.
