Wayne Boardman is a National Coach to the England Wheelchair Rugby League Team and also a key squad player for the team. The team recently won the world championships held in Australia, a remarkable achievement considering they were playing Australia in the final. A serious road accident some years ago left Wayne in a wheelchair and his life since that tragic accident will act as an inspiration to all who hear it. This is Wayne’s story: ‘Hello, my name is Wayne and I would like to share my story with you. A few years ago I was involved in a serious road accident which has left me in a wheelchair. This, as you can imagine, was extremely difficult to come to terms with, particularly as sport up to that time had formed a major part of my life. However, one has to get on with one’s life and I was please to find that I could at least enjoy physical competition again when I joined my local wheelchair rugby and basketball teams. During 2008 I was honoured to become a coach to the England National Wheelchair Rugby League Team, and also a key player in the squad. Due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to go with the England Team to Australia and take part in the World Cup, and though I was devastated at not being able to take part, I was, of course, delighted for the team. It was a magnificent achievement, especially as they beat Australia in the final, and on their own soil. Sport apart; being a young man one of my other concerns was my ability to enjoy some form of sex life. To manage sex since my accident I have needed to use injections or drugs such as Viagra in order to achieve and sustain an erection. The injection proved the better method for me as it avoided the headaches I suffered with Viagra and also my erection lasted longer.
