 For a market basket of food bought in food stores in a base period,
currently 1982-84. The retail price index is derived from data from
the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Farm
value is based on prices farmers received for commodities. The
spread between the retail price and farm value represents charges
for processing and marketing.
