Perryne Constance (firstname.lastname@example.org) Program: University of Toronto/OISE/SESE flextime PhD. Academic History: University of Toronto/OISE/SESE MEd, 1997 University of Toronto/OISE BEd in History and Social Studies, 1996. Previous study in the USA at Johns Hopkins (incomplete PhD program in Political Science) and Simmons College BA in Communications and Sociology (of Third World Development). Academic Interests (subject to change): How to use educational tools to engage students at the alternative schools level and, with specificity to minority students and, in particular, black students, advocate utilization of this form of highly-resourced education as an automatic means to post-secondary education. Also interested in identifying and/or creating commonality at the cross-cultural, cross-ethnic, cross-religious and cross-economic lines among black students in particular for better engagement with each other and with society at large. Other interests include the politics of politics. Am from the apartheid years of South Africa so make connections with that history and how parts of it can be used to explain continuing hegemonic gatekeeping in Canada despite this country's Social Justice ethos. Work History: Presently a secondary teacher at a TDSB alternative school that focuses on independent learning. Teach Social Studies, and introductory courses in Computer Studies and Business Information Technology to Grades 11 and 12. Previously a journalist (news producer) with CBC, and did stints as a Parliamentary researcher for the Parliament of South Africa, and as a communications manager in economic development for the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, South Africa.
