Dear Parents,

I am writing to introduce myself. My name is Shani Cummins and I am a student teacher for the
sophomore English class at Bonneville High School. I am finishing my last semester at Idaho
State University and am excited to be doing my internship in your student’s class.

The internship program is an opportunity for future teachers to put into practice the theoretical
foundations of education and teaching methods taught in university classes. I will spend the first
few weeks observing the cooperating teacher, Mrs. Smith, and working closely with her to plan
and deliver lessons and assess students’ progress. I will gradually assume all of the classroom
responsibilities with Mrs. Smith guiding my practice. Also to support this process, I will be
observed and evaluated by a university supervisor, a retired educator with years of experience
and lots of helpful advice.

If you have any questions or would just like to talk with me, don’t hesitate to call the school at
525-4400 or email me at cummshan@isu.edu. I look forward to getting to know your student
and working to meet his or her academic needs.

Sincerely,

Shani Cummins
