THIS IS A PAID INTERNSHIP WITH THE POTENTIAL OF
PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT FOLLOWING GRADUATION.

THE STUDENT CAREER EXPERIENCE PROGRAM:. Los Angeles Air Force Base is seeking
applicants for Student Trainee positions under the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP). This
program provides an opportunity for students to gain work experience directly related to their academic or
career goals while pursuing their degree. Students are eligible for promotion, health and life insurance,
Thrift Savings Plan (similar to 401k), as well as vacation and sick time. Employment may continue
beyond graduation. The SCEP trainee becomes eligible for permanent employment after successfully
completing education and work requirements.
(A) Financial Management Trainee: Declared Major of Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics,
or other acceptable Business or Management options.
(B) Contract Management Trainee: Major of Business/Industry, or other acceptable Business or
Management options, with completion of significant portion of 24 semester hours of business coursework
such as accounting, business finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management,
marketing, quantitative methods, and organization and management
(1) Enrollment, as a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university, in a full 4-year or longer
curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree (with a declared major field of study as described above), with a
cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.

(2) Enrollment as a degree seeking student at an accredited college or university, in a graduate level
curriculum leading to a master’s degree (with a declared major field of study as described above), with a
cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better;
(3) Enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university in a full 4-year or longer
curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, AND acceptance for
enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university in a graduate level curriculum
(with a declared major field of study as described above) leading to a master’s degree;
(4) Enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university in a full 2-year or longer
curriculum leading to an associate’s degree, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, AND acceptance for
enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university, in a full 4-year or longer
curriculum (with a declared major field of study as described above) leading to a bachelor’s degree.
Continued enrollment as a bachelor’s or master’s degree-seeking student (with a declared major field of
study as described above), at an accredited college or university; successful completion of at least a half-
time academic course load each term; and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better upon initial employment
consideration or offer; and, continued maintenance of 2.5 or better cumulative GPA for duration of SCEP
QUALIFYING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:
The following apply to all Student Trainee positions, regardless of trainee position or major
GS-3 Successful completion of 1 academic year (30 semester hours or equivalent) of post high school
GS-4 Successful completion of 2 academic years (60 semester hours or equivalent) of post high school
study or Associate’s Degree
GS-5 Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field and pursuing graduate level
education or master’s or equivalent graduate degree
GS-7 Successful completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education; or, bachelor’s degree with
honor society membership, or, 2.95 or better GPA (submit full undergrad transcript for assessing
GPA in accordance with allowable options for calculating eligible GPA)
SCEP AGREEMENT: If selected for SCEP employment, you will be required to sign a Student Career
SECURITY CLEARANCE: A security clearance is required for all Los Angeles Air Force Base
employees. Students that are hired will be required to submit required documents to obtain and maintain
the clearance appropriate to their position.
CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Continuation of SCEP employment will be contingent upon the SCEP
Trainee continuing to meet the basic requirements of the program as described above, including enrollment
for, and successful completion of, at least a half-time course load each school term. SCEP Trainees will be
required to submit continuing proof of enrollment and cumulative GPA for the duration of SCEP
ELIGIBILITY FOR PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATION UPON GRADUATION:
SCEP Trainees become eligible for permanent employment consideration upon successful completion of all
degree coursework and trainee work experience. Permanent employment offers are contingent upon
meeting all requirements and conditions for permanent federal employment, and supervisory/management
(chain-of-command) recommendations. The qualification requirements for Contract Management positions
require successful completion of specific coursework. If you become a Contract Management SCEP
trainee, a description of that requirement will be provided to you with your SCEP Agreement. NOTE:
Conversion to permanent employment following graduation is an eligibility, not an entitlement or
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: SCEP Trainees are eligible for: health and life insurance; Thrift Savings Plan

You must submit the following documents or proofs with your application:
Copy of all college transcripts: transcripts must contain all completed coursework, indicating each
course name, number, credit hours, and grade. Transcripts must be sufficient for calculation of
your cumulative GPA. You may submit transcript copies with your application; however, you
will be required to submit original official transcripts prior to interview and/or employment offer.
In the event that your transcript submission is so overly cumbersome that sorting it out for
evaluation becomes excessively time consuming, nearly impossible, or impossible, you may not
receive employment consideration. This word of caution is offered based on many inadequate or
unusable transcript submissions received in the past. You may wish to make arrangements to
obtain original sealed transcripts as soon as possible so you will be ready to accept employment if
