Cerrejon LLC (Cerrejon) is one of the largest coal mining companies in Colombia. The company is engaged in the exploration,
production, transportation and shipment of high grade thermic coal from its northern, central and southern zones in the
Department of la Guajira. Cerrejon is an independently managed joint venture company which is owned equally by BHP Billiton,
AngloAmerican and Xstrata. It is the world's largest open pit coal mining and export company with coal deposits in 69,000
hectares. The company also manages the rail system of 150 kilometers which links the mine to the export terminal at Puerto
Bolivar. In 2010, the company exported 30.2 million tons of coal.
