Question

How can I set up a custom tone for SMS,
MMS, email, etc.?

Windows Media Player won't recognize all
of the music files that I loaded on my
device, why?
When I try to download a lot of songs, I
always get timed out and the download
stops.

My device sometimes automatically
switches between Ring and Vibrate mode.

When I am listening to music via the built
in Windows Media Player on my device
and I press the Power button to put my
device in hibernate mode, the playback
stops. How can I continue to listen to my
music without having my screen on?
Answer
Your device supports .wav files for custom alerts.
To set an Audio file as your Alert:
Activesync:
Using Activesync, select "Explore".
Open the "Windows Mobile-based device"
Open the "Windows" Folder.
Drag and drop file into the "Windows" folder.
To set the file as your tone using TouchFlo 3D, select the Settings
Tab>Sound>Ringtone>Select file from drop down.

Windows Mobile Device Center:
Using WNDC, select "File Management" and "Browse the contents of your device".
Open the Application Data Folder.
Locate and open the "Sounds" folder.
Drop the file into the "Sounds" Folder.
To set the file as your tone using TouchFlo 3D, select the Settings
Tab>Sound>Ringtone>Select file from drop down.

From and SD Card:
On your device, go to the Programs Tab>All Programs>File Explorer.
Locate the file.
Highlight the file and tap Menu>Edit>Copy.
Navigate to and open the “Application Data” Folder.
Open the “Sounds” folder.
Tap Menu>Edit>Paste.
To set the file as your tone, go to Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications
Tab>Select file from drop down.

Your device will only recognize files types that it supports. Below are the supported file
types:
Video format supported: WMV, ASF, MP4, AVI, and RM Real Media.
Audio format supported: AMR, AAC, WAV, WMA, MP3
If your device is not recognizing the files, your library may need to be updated. From
within Widnows Media Player select Menu>Update library. This will start a scan that will
look for all compatible audio files on the device and update the library.
If you are downloading 50 or more songs to your handheld from your PC, the connection
to your handheld may timeout.
To bypass this, select the Settings Tab>All Settings > Connections > USB to PC. Check the
box for “Enable advanced Network Functionality". Select OK. You will want to unclick this
box if you are getting corporate email, as it may cause issues with VPN's and servers.

Alternately, you also have the option to set your device to "Disk Drive" mode (for faster
file transfer) by going to the Settings Tab>All Settings>Connections>USB to PC and
selecting Disk Drive. Note: The storage card won’t be displayed in the devices File
Explorer when connected to a PC in Disk Drive mode.

You may have enabled the Automatic option found by going to Today Screen>Settings
Tab>Sound and selecting Automatic.
When enabled, the device switches to vibrate based on time marked as busy in the
Outlook Calendar when synced with the device.

If you manually press the Power Button once to put the device in hibernate mode,
Windows Media Player music playback will stop. This is by design to allow you to quickly
stop the playback. To continue listening to your music without leaving the screen on, let
the device go into hibernate on it’s own; the music will continue to play.

Your device has Bluetooth version 2.0 with EDR. A key differentiator
is Bluetooth v2.0 support which allows for up to six active Bluetooth
connections simultaneously. For example, a user could have a
tethered connection to a PC via Bluetooth, while having a
conversation on their Bluetooth headset, or use a Bluetooth GPS
accessory for navigation while on a call on their Bluetooth headset.
Your device even supports BT Stereo (A2DP) so that you can not only
use your headset for phone calls but to listen to music too.
Supported Profiles:
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
Operating systems
Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
Basic Printing Profile (BPP)
Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN)

ISP.
You may also have to disable the Proxy settings on the device
by going to the Programs Tab>All Programs>Disable Proxy.
Note: You will need to re-enable Proxy on your device in
order to gain access to AT&T MediaNet content.

This is usually seen if the device has been idle for a while and
the Wireless Network connection has been lost however, the
device isn't aware of the disconnection. To resolve this, end
the Data Session by pressing the End Call Button once (this
will remove the small 3G icon that is above your signal
strength indicating that the connection has been ended) and
launch your browser to establish a new connection. If this
does not resolve the issue, perform a soft reset (this will
prompt the device to attempt to establish a new data
session).
Yes, you can tether your device with your PC and use it as a
wireless modem utilizing Internet Sharing (Programs Tab>All
Programs> Internet Sharing)
An AT&T Laptop Connect Plan is required for this ability; it
you attempt to tether and are not set up for Laptop Connect,

What does a Hard Reset do and how
is it performed?

When should I perform a Hard Reset?
What is a Soft Reset and how is it
performed?
Answer

Perform a Soft reset by pressing the Stylus into the Reset hole located on the bottom of the device to the upper
right of the USB port. If the screen issue persists, perform a Hard Reset.
Verify with your wireless carrier that your SIM is active.
Remove and Reinsert the SIM in your device.
Soft Reset your device.
If you are getting "Invalid SIM" this could mean that your SIM has not been activated by your wireless carrier.
Please contact your carrier. If you are getting "No Service" try turning the device off and back on, changing
locations and contacting your carrier to verify coverage.
The main reason for a device to slow down and crash is the lack of available memory. You will want to free up
more memory so that the device can return to normal function.

This device offers a few options for managing memory.
There is a shortcut for the Task Manager on the upper right corner of the Today screen that allows you to view
programs that are currently running and gives you the option to shut them down.
There is also a X-Button application that allows you to choose what action is taken when the X button is tapped
(minimize or close). To access and change these settings, tap the Task Manager shortcut and choose Options
from the drop down. The settings for the X-button can be found on the Button tab.
Note: When the “X” Button is not set to end running programs, tapping the “X” button will only minimize the
program and it will still be running in the background using Memory.

Clear the History and Temp files in your browser:
In Internet Explorer go to Menu>Tools>Options>Memory Tab.
In Opera, got to Menu (lower right corner)>Settings>Privacy and select Delete History and Delete Cache.
UMTS: 850/1900/2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad Band, 850/900/1800/1900MHz).
HSDPA 3PP Release 5 Compliant.
You may have traveled outside of the coverage area or you may have incorrect settings in your device. Perform a
Soft rest on the device and is the issue remains, contact your wireless carrier for assistance.
A Hard Reset restores the device to its default settings — the way it was when you first purchased it and turned
it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on the device will be lost. Only
Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a hard reset
Access the Settings Tab>All Settings>System>Clear Storage
Follow the onscreen instructions.
A hard reset basically returns your device to factory conditions, the device is restored to its default settings –
the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on.

Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings
you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will
remain. This is a drastic step, and usually only as a result of some kind of hardware failure or gross system error.
It should only be used if nothing else worked to recover your device.
A soft reset basically resets the memory structure in the handheld. This recovers the device from memory
conflicts, corrupted system service chains (mainly due to attempting hacks), memory leaks, and system lockups
due to the "Fatal Exception" program errors. Removing the battery from the device while it is still powered on is
NOT a soft reset and can actually damage the device.
A Soft Reset is performed by:
Remove the battery cover and the stylus from the device.
Insert the tip of the stylus into the reset hole located on the left side of the device (with the back of the device
facing you) .
The device will reboot.
