teacher is seeing the kids learn and teaching them.” He says
his favorite activity is starting a new book. He has two very
fun hobbies which are fly fishing and fly tying. Mr.
Langhout’s class is starting a new book about a boy and an

First Grades Amazing Activities
By: Zoe Farrell
Do you know what’s going on in Mrs.
Henkel’s class? Well this week they are
doing lots of spider projects and reading
spider books about daddy long legs,
poisonous spiders and different types of
spider webs. They love to read and
write. Right now they are reading a
book called I Hate First Grade. The
book is about a kindergartner who is
going into first grade and thinks that it
is going to be horrible. Then she
realizes she really likes it. They all are
doing well in writing and Mrs. Henkel
really likes to see their improvement.
Even though she has taught Mrs Henkel's First Grade Class
kindergartners and 2nd graders, she
really loves to teach first grade.

Do you know what the 5k class is working on? They are working on learning color words, and
making rainbows. Mrs. Eerinisse’s class went to the fire department! They’re planning to go to the
golden garden to see pumpkins and maybe even decorate them! Cool! They’re also going to pick a tree
and learn about them. Mrs. Eernisse has taught for ten years! She also said that she likes to teach funny
songs and many games! She is teaching her current students a math game called top it. That’s what’s
up.

First Annual Walk-A-Thon
I interviewed Mrs.Oty and she is working on the book fair. She has been working for the
book fair for 4 years. Can you believe that? The people she works with are really nice she
said. Do you know how many people she works with in the year just for the book fair? At
least 30 to 40 people. Why do we do the book fair? Well, we do it because how many books
we sell equals how many books we get to earn for the school. If you are wondering what
types of books there are? There are chapter books all the way down to easy picture books.
Last but not least if you want to know some stuff about her. She loves baseball. It is her
favorite sport. Her hobby is reading and loves to hang out with her son.
Now here is some stuff about the fall fest. Do you know what the fall fest is? I do. It is a
big party for families and friends to get together and have fun. There is music, treats,
arts&crafts, games and a food drive. The Fall Fest is October 28th. The main fundraiser for
Horizon this year was a Walk-a-Thon. All the students walked on the high school track
together. We also ate on the field. We earned over 7,000 dollars for school field-trips and
assemblies. There were prizes and an ice cream social. It was tons of fun.
