THE DRAMATIC LIFE OF SURREALIST PAINTER ÓSCAR DOMÍNGUEZ MAKES
A DEEP IMPRINT IN THE DESTINY OF A DYING LAWYER.

In ‘Óscar. The color of destiny’, a polished tale of parallel lives unfolds: that of
Spanish painter Óscar Domínguez in early 20th Century Paris and that of Ana, a
lawyer in today’s Madrid who is diagnosed a terrible illness and devotes herself to
the search of a mysterious painting which, according to the experts, is the last work
Domínguez painted before committing suicide.

In the screen portrayal of Óscar Domínguez we can see a revolutionary brilliant and
creative spirit in all the aspects of his life. The movie recreates an inner universe that
is both rich and chaotic. There are also relevant figures of the artistic vanguard such
as Picasso or Breton who play a determining role in the story, as well as
Domínguez’s relationship with Roma, a Polish pianist who was shot by the Nazis
during the occupation of Paris.

                             DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT ABOUT THE FILM

"... A FILM THAT MOVES AND DISCOVERS A DAMNED PAINTER"

To translate into a film the life of a damned painter has become a complete job of reminding a
forgotten myth of the French Surrealism: Óscar Domínguez, contemporary with Picasso.

As the scriptwriter and director of 'Oscar. The color of destiny', I have wanted to rediscover
the tormented life of an exceptional artist that has been left behind after his suicide, half a
century ago, under the effects of a terrible illness: "the Elephant man's disease".

'Oscar. The color of destiny' is a film set in the Golden Age of the 20 th Century Art, which
maximum expression, the Surrealism, is summarized through the life and work of this
Spaniard who lived in Paris and reached the peak of the Art together with Picasso, Dalí and
Miró. With this tragical story, I have tried to make a film that gets excited, moves and takes to
admire this bohemian painter destined for self-destruction.

This is one of the few occasions in the Art History that a painter biography corresponds
faithfully to his artistic and philosophical ideas.

Óscar Domínguez was a libertine man that considered himself a monster because of the
disfiguring disease that he suffered. His life was a universal adventure where the art is the
result of love and loneliness, but also of sex and violence, before, during and after the Nazi
occupation of Paris.

To go into this biography I have elected the way of parallel lives narration: that of Óscar
                                                                           th
Domínguez in Canary Islands and Paris during the first half of the 20 Century, and that of
Ana, a lawyer in today's Madrid who deals with a terminal illness searching a mysterious
canvas of this artist.

This film is a tribute to one of the icons of the generation with the most brilliant artists of the
  th
20 Century: the surrealist painter that act in his life according to his ideology until the last
consequences, Óscar Domínguez.
