                                      1) RPL process to develop tools for Metaliferous and Coal is due to               Information           Rod Ramsay

                                      commence in the Bowen Basin, Mt Isa and Townsville districts in the near
                                      future. There has been a good acceptance of the project and trying to initiate
                                      a standard process in the industry

                                      2) An overview was given on PROJECT CANARY to the group. This project is
                                      an industry first serious games based simulation training tool. The tool places
                                      individuals where they are confronted with workplace scenarios from Coal
                                      and Metaliferous surface mining, as well as underground Coal mining. If you

                           3) Information on the annual Mining Industry Skills Centre Conference and
                           Training Awards was provided to the group. The conference is being held on
Projects Overview (cont)   Thursday 24 Sept and Friday 25 Sept. Details on registration and the             Information           Rod Ramsay
                           program. This information can be found on the website
                           www.miskillscentreconference.com.au.
                           Registrations for the conference close on 11 September 2009. Please contact
                           Nic Beveridge on 07 3872 8510 for further information regarding
                           registrations.

                           4) The Australian Simulation Research Office (ASRO) has been opened in
                           Mackay. The MISC office has also been relocated to this office. In conjunction
                           with the UCQ, the ASRO office has been developed to examine aspects
                           affecting the use of simulation in the resources industry.

                           5) Mining Industry Skills Centre will be launching the Supervisor Framework
                           at the annual Conference by Deb Jones. Further information will be provided
                           at the network groups, after this launch.

                           A new item is to be introduced in the agendas of all the network meetings.       Information               All
      Local Issues
                           This item on current issues is to raise awareness on current trends and
                           concerns in the industry. The intent is to share the issues among each of the
                           networks. The issues raised at this meeting are listed below.

                           1) Access to Funding. What funding, both state and federal is available to the
                           industry sites. Who else provides funding to industry for training?

                           2) Who does what at MISC now with the restructure? Is there a way of
                           finding the staff information on the webpage? Staff listings are located on
                           the webpage, giving the names and job titles. If you would like more
                           information on the staff, or would like to know who to speak to about various
                           issues, please contact Emma Firth on 07 3872 8510.

                           3) RTO network meetings. MISC is currently looking at setting up network
                           meetings specifically for RTO’s and other training organisations to discuss
                           current issues within the industry. Information would then be passed
                           between the various network meetings in the local issues agenda items.

                   To identify changes to the Skills DMC home page

                   Services and resources—On line

             Skills DMC are funded by DEEWR.

Safety, Training & Productivity   Workshops have been conducted across each of the networks to establish a
           Workshop               range of data for the purpose of looking into the relationship of Safety
                                  Training and Productivity.
                                  This workshop, looked at three questions,
                                     a) What factors are considered when looking at inputs into training?

                                  The information collated at the workshop will be forwarded to each of the
                                  networks in the next month, after the remaining network meetings have been
                                  completed.

      General Business

                                  In response to your requests and feedback, the Mining Industry Skills Centre
                                  has developed an online forum on our website for you to discuss current
                                  issues, hot topics or ask for advice from other people within the resources
                                  industry. This tool has been designed to be driven by you – you decide the
                                  agenda topics, the discussions and the debates.

                                  As this forum was specifically developed from the requests received at the
                                  network meetings, we are keen to see people benefiting from and using this
                                  valuable tool. I have attached the ―how to guide‖ to get you started.

                                  If you have any questions or troubles with the forum, or would like any
                                  further information about the network meetings, please do no hesitate to
                                  contact Emma.
