Mail entry form, CD or DVD and tear sheets along with check to: AAEA Design Awards, Marilyn Cummins – 4707 Gage Place, Columbia, MO 65203 Entries must be postmarked by April 15, 2008.
Eligibility and Fees
The AAEA Agricultural Design Awards Program is open to both AAEA member and non-member designers. Please note that nonmembers must join at the time of entry. AAEA membership consists of five classes: active, affiliate, honorary life, student and retired. Entries must be submitted in the name of the individual designer/designers. The entry must be made in the name of the person who designed the work (not the publisher or editor). The entry fee in the Design Awards Program is $10 per entry. Non-members should include a check (made out to AAEA) for $170 ($25 for students) and a completed AAEA membership application from www.ageditors.com, plus the $10 per-design entry fee. (If you are a member and have not yet renewed for 2008, the renewal fee is $195, which includes the $25 late fee.) Enter items that appeared from April 1, 2007, through March 31, 2008. Entrants may send one check from their organization for entry fees and dues. If the check is sent separately from the entries, send a letter listing the covered items. of the designer. PDFs should be output at the same physical size as the publication, without any printers’ marks. For multiple-page entries, a multiple-page PDF should be used for the entry, output in sequence as published. Spreads should be output as PDF spreads if the overall effect of the design deems it necessary. You may put all of your entry files on one CD or DVD. Name PDF files with category number, followed by the designer’s last name, followed by a sequence number for multiple entries in a category. Example: For a two-plus page design-commercial entry from John Doe, the file name would be D05Doe01.pdf. Put file name on the entry form. For overall magazine (D07 and D08), publication (D09 and D12) and newsletter (D13 and D14) entries, submit three printed copies of the single issue you are entering. For electronic design entries (D10 and D11), list the URL on the entry form. Judges will evaluate these entries “live” online. For the typography category (D15), one entry is a specific situation of type use: a headline, a graphic element, a story start or an entire story layout if it reflects a typographical theme. Do not enter an entire publication issue, or multiple and/or unrelated uses of type as a single entry in this category. Enter a 300 dpi PDF of the specific situation. For the chart/graph material category (D16), one entry is one specific situation within or accompanying a story using a chart or graph to communicate information. Enter a 300 dpi PDF of the chart and the accompanying story. An entry form must accompany each individual entry. Submit with entry form paper-clipped (NO STAPLES) to the one tear sheet or one of the issues.
How to Enter
Most categories are split into Commercial and Custom publications, defined as follows: Commercial: A publication that contains paid advertisements or charges subscribers to receive the publication. Custom: A publication without outside paid advertising, such as publications from companies, associations and cooperatives targeted to their customers and/or members. Entries will be judged on creativity, concept and clarity of the design, with the main emphasis on its effectiveness in communicating editorial messages. For print design entries in categories D01, D02, D03, D04, D05 and D06, submit one tear sheet of each entry along with a 300 dpi PDF of the entry on a CD-ROM or DVD, burned with the name
