News For Immediate Release General Motors Corporation GM Communications Detroit, Mich., USA media.gm.com F Fuel-efficiency Rules in Chevrolet’s Vehicle Lineup at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show CHICAGO – Great design, class-leading fuel efficiency and advanced technology converge in current and upcoming Chevrolet vehicles at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, including the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and production-intent version of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle, which make their Chicago debut. “We are reinventing what drives America and the world,” said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. “The shift to more fuel-efficient vehicles can be seen with the Equinox, which joins other fuel-economy leaders from Chevrolet. We’re also previewing gas-friendly to gas-free vehicles that will be in dealer showrooms soon, including the Chevrolet Cruze, Spark, Orlando and, of course, the Volt.” The 2010 Chevy Equinox arrives in dealers this summer and delivers expected segment-leading highway fuel economy of 30 mpg. It is joined by the Chevrolet Orlando show car, a compact, multi-purpose vehicle, along with the Chevrolet Beat concept. The Beat precedes the recently announced Chevrolet Spark, a highly fuel-efficient mini-car. Chevrolet announced at last month’s North American International Auto Show that Orlando and Spark will be produced for the global market. Also in Chicago will be two different production models of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro – Camaro SS and Camaro LT – as well as the Camaro Black concept first shown last fall at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show. Camaro goes on sale this spring. Here’s a look at the new and upcoming Chevrolet vehicles on display at McCormick Place: 2010 Chevrolet Equinox: When equipped with GM’s new 2.4L four-cylinder direct injection engine – one of two all-new engine choices – Equinox is expected to achieve segment-leading highway fuel economy of 30 mpg, beating both the Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CR-V. The 2.4L-equipped five-seat crossover is filled with unexpected amenities for the price and is influenced by the Malibu sedan and midsize Traverse crossover. 2010 Chevrolet Camaro: A sports car for the 21st century, Camaro returns with heritage-inspired design, great performance, advanced technology and surprising efficiency – including 27-mpg estimated highway fuel economy. Performance enthusiasts’ pulses will quicken with the Camaro SS, powered by a 6.2L LS3 V-8 making up to 426 horsepower (318 kW). Chevrolet will display Camaro SS and LT models. Camaro Black concept: The Camaro Black concept suggests a stealth-like approach to street style. From its matte black-finished hood and ground effects to its dark wheels and red-glowing HID headlamp halo rings, the Camaro Black Concept is a sinister-looking urban tuner vehicle. Many of the Camaro Black’s tailored accessories, including the ground effects package and rear diffuser, are part of an extensive collection of dealeravailable accessories available at the Camaro’s launch, giving customers personalization options that can be ordered, installed and financed at the dealer. 2011 Chevrolet Volt: The Chevrolet Volt is a revolutionary vehicle that will deliver up to 40 miles of gasoline- and emissions-free electric driving, with the extended-range capability of hundreds of additional miles from its Voltec powertrain. Production is scheduled to begin late next year. For trips up to 40 miles, Volt is powered by electricity stored in its lithium-ion battery. After that, a gasoline/E85-powered engine generator provides electricity to power an electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the battery’s charge. This extends the range of the Volt for several hundred additional miles, until the vehicle’s battery can be recharged – a task as simple as plugging the vehicle into a household outlet. Chevrolet will show a production-intent version of the Volt and a demonstration chassis that shows off its Voltec electric powertrain system. 2011 Chevrolet Cruze: This all-new, compact sedan with coupe-like design proportions; midsize-like interior and trunk space; and great fuel efficiency goes on sale in the United States and Canada in the first half of next year. It will be powered by an optional new 1.4L turbocharged engine expected to deliver 40 mpg highway. An efficient 1.8L engine and a family of six-speed transmissions also will be offered. Cruze goes on sale in the U.S. in 2010. Chevrolet Orlando show car: The Orlando is a compact, seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle based on the recently introduced Cruze compact sedan. Equipped with a fuelefficient, four-cylinder engine, Orlando offers the versatile attributes of a sport-utility, family van and wagon. Like the Spark, the Orlando production vehicle debuts in U.S. markets in 2011. Chevrolet Beat concept: The Beat two-door mini-car concept combines youthful exterior and interior design with outstanding fuel economy. After sweeping the global auto show circuit, the Beat inspired the Chevy Spark, which will be sold in several markets around the world starting in 2010. The Spark hits the U.S. in 2011. Chevrolet Trax concept: Chevrolet Trax is an urban front-wheel-drive crossover concept with a twist: This micro SUV has an electric limited-slip differential that features an independent battery pack and an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, providing a low-cost all-wheel-drive system. Other features that suit its dynamic and off-road character include a voluminous, single-unit bumper and fender in the front and rear. Chevrolet is one of America’s best-known and best-selling automotive brands, and one of the fastest-growing brands in the world. With fuel solutions that go from "gas-friendly to gas-free,” Chevy has eight models that get 30 miles per gallon or more on the highway, and offers three hybrid models. More than 2.5 million Chevrolets that run on E85 biofuel have been sold. Next year, Chevrolet will offer the Chevy Volt, an extendedrange electric vehicle that will travel up to 40 miles without using any gas at all. Chevy delivers expressive design, spirited performance and provides the best value in every segment in which it competes.
