REBEL ROUSER NEWS Summer Season Starting Soon Rebel Rouser September 2004 Hi everyone, the summer women’s season is about to begin. Teams are looking good at the moment, with Gully Rebels looking to field a team in all age groups and grades, and even two in B grade. This result has been due to the excellent recruiting efforts of the Club over the past months. We still need some more U/14 girls to fill up this team, and a few more B grade players to fill a second team would be excellent. Please talk to everyone you know to recruit members to fill the teams. Our web site has had a significant overhaul. Thank you to Gilly and Don for their efforts in this area. Great work guys. Check it out at: www.vicnet.net.au/~grsc/ Some sad news is that Dodgers Softball Club has folded and so is no longer. Please make welcome all Dodgers members to Gully Rebels. You will be seeing a number of their faces in the green and gold around the ground and we all hope to see them in up coming social functions in the near future. A number of the ex-Dodgers members will be taking up coaching positions and possibly committee positions in the Club. ABS Ferntree Gully have made considerable money donation to the club to enable us to provide caps and jackets at a heavily reduced price. Thank you to those members who took up the option of paying this years fees upfront and receiving a new style cap for free. We have plenty of caps in stock for $10 each. Also new style jackets have also arrived and are selling for $50 a jacket. Subway are supporting our juniors with encouragement awards which will be handed out throughout the season. Computershare have made a significant money donation to the masters team going to Queensland in November. REBEL ROUSER MENS Finals Action All Done After a fantastic regular season by the Gully Rebels Hoops team, injury struck them down at the worst time and were not able to make the grand final. Congratulations to the EJays team for taking out the premiership and were also the minor premiers. And a big well done to Matthew Tayler for taking out the MVP for the competition. coming to play or help are most welcome – please see Mal, Ian, or Stuart about details. Good luck guys. Please ask around all your friends to recruit a few B or C grade players. Senior fees have once again be held to a low $150 for the season due to our great fund raising efforts. Pay up straight away to help your club out. WELL DONE MATTY FOR WINNING MVP FOR THE MENS SEASON Mens Open Sunday November 20 and 21 is open state champs at Sale. Mens Windup Thank you to Mal Wallace for providing his homely residence for us all to eat the fantastic spread put on by Dougie and team. Gilly’s run down of the year was fantastic (for some) and I will be surprised if he gets anyone to play for him ever again! (Note to all – Gilly is a trouble maker) The Gully Rebels Green turn out was pathetic to say the least. These nights are put on for no cost guys – come along and join in the fun. With close competition from Brad Palmer and Owen Pollock, the eventual winner of this seasons prestigious K2 award with a record 19 K2’s from the Gully Rebels Green team is Stuart Summerville. Well done. Summer Season Helpers Wanted Your KDSA needs your help urgently. The association has no registrar. This means we have no-one registering players with the VSA – meaning that you may not have insurance. Meaning that no-one is checking people for finals eligibility. Meaning that your association is not functioning properly and your help is needed if you want to play softball. This is an important job and some-one needs to step up and do it otherwise we don’t play ball. Thank you to Maureen Young who has been doing it for countless number of years. The association has no canteen manager. The canteen will not open without a manager. This is a paying position that is excellent for a university student or adult. Sue Natolli has kindly put her hand up to be the KDSA summer season manager. She is asking for people to assist her in getting things WOMENS Teams Gully Rebels plan to field a number of juniors and ladies teams this year. We are in need of a number of more players to enable us to field two B grade teams and a C grade team. Please let me know if you are interested in playing both grades some or most weeks. This may enable us to field another team so that we do not have too many in one B grade team. Masters The masters club (over 35’s) is taking a mens team to the Gold Coast from November 5th to 14th. Organisation is well underway, but one or two more bodies would be nice to have. Anyone interested in Gilbert Park, Ferntree Gully Rd., Knoxfield, Victoria , Australia Gully Rebels Softball Club REBEL ROUSER done. If you can help out, please talk to Jenny Botten for contact details. JUNIORS CHAMPS First Aiders Needed KDSA has asked if anyone wants to complete a first aid certificate – costs are to be fully covered by VSA, KDSA, and Gully Rebels. We need first aiders down at the ground in case of emergencies. Please talk to Jenny Botten if you wish to carry out this course. Come and Try There is a come and try day for Juniors on October 2nd, 11am to 1pm. A sausage sizzle will follow. From 9am to 11am is a working bee. So come on down early, help out, let the kids have a run, and join in the fun. Gully Member is Champs Coordinator Just wanted to let you all know that Greg Farrell is the KDSA Squad Development Coordinator. Now this is a long title, but as far as we can work out this means Greg gets to write a lot of documents. Only joking Greg – really. Greg Farrell played a few mens games this winter and his family are Gully members too. Greg is working hard at ensuring that the KDSA have the best teams on the diamond at various state competitions and that they have the very best support crew. If you are interested in playing or helping out a team – Greg is your first stop. gregoryfarrell@bigpond.com Level 1 Scoring Course A level 1 scoring course will get you on the way to being a pro. This is a two evening course, is free, and the first night is on 11th October. Contact Kirsty Young (Ejays) if you are interested. If you don’t know Kirsty, then just ask around Gully Rebels – there are plenty of people that can point you in the right direction. Level 1 is aimed at beginners. You do not have to do level 0. Level 1 does not use colours – that does not happen till level 2! Junior Recruitment We still need a few U/14 girls to complete an excellent junior recruitment drive this year. Please ask around and let them know about our low fees, $55.00 for season. School Recruitment We have offered to run clinics in the hope of making it interesting for students & hopefully they will want to play on Saturdays. Depending on schools allocated times for sport we will require people to help run clinics at the schools. Once again please give me a call on 9763 9297. It is so important that we get the juniors happening again, I plead with all members to please help your club to achieve this goal. The new caps and jacket styles will be slowly changed over as people buy new ones. We do not expect every one to come and replace jackets as these are expensive items and are not generally used to play in. Caps we hope will be changed over in the next few years, just like the tops.
