          “1 DECEMBRIE 1918” UNIVERSITY OF ALBA IULIA
   Valid for citizens from countries other than EU member states, EFTA or EEA
                 countries, other than Romanian ethnics or Diaspora


“1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia is a public higher education and research
institution. It is a governmental institution, integrated into the national higher education
system and functions on the basis of the Romanian Constitution, the Law of Education,
the University Charter and internal norms.

 “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia welcomes students from all over the world
to enroll in one of the undergraduate or postgraduate programmes offered by its four
faculties.

                                        1. Admission

              ADMISSION TO UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Documents required for application:

      High-school graduation diploma – copy in original language and notarized
       translation into Romanian/ English/ French/ German, in case the originals are not
       written in one of the languages mentioned above
      Transcript of Records for high-school studies – copy in original language and
       notarized translation into Romanian/ English/ French/ German, in case the
       originals are not written in one of the languages mentioned above
      Birth certificate – copy in original language and notarized translation
      Marriage certificate (if the applicant's last name changed subsequent to marriage)
       – copy in original language and notarized translation
      Medical certificate (in a widely spoken language) proving that the candidate is in
       good health and that he/she does not present any danger for public health, does
       not have any contagious diseases or illnesses that are not compatible with his/her
       future profession.
      Passport copy (of all pages)
      Four passport-size photos
      Application form (2 signed original copies)

The diplomas and civil status documents have to be authenticated by the Romanian
Embassy in the country which issued the documents or they have to have the Apostille
(for countries which have signed the Convention de La Haye). For a list of countries
which have signed the Convention, go to http://hcch.e-vision.nl

N.B.: Nationals of the following countries will send us their documents exclusively
through the Romanian Embassy in their country: Algeria, Malaysia, India, Pakistan,
Nigeria, Egypt, Iran.
The file submission period at the Ministry of Education is March 1 - August 24. We
strongly recommend sending us the documents before the deadline! After this date, the
applications will not be processed!

The admission of foreign students at our University is based on the evaluation of the
application file.

The official documents have to be submitted personally, in original, at registration in
Romania.

Foreign students, who began to study in their home country or in another country, can
finish their studies in Romania. This is possible according to each individual case, after
the recognition and equivalence of diplomas.

The language of instruction for all the undergraduate programmes offered by our
University is Romanian. Therefore, you have two options:

   1. learn Romanian during one preparatory year spent in an institution which
      organizes preparatory courses of Romanian language; you can choose in the
      Application form the Romanian University where you wish to study Romanian
      during the preparatory year.
   2. pass a test of Romanian language if you can speak Romanian or send copies of
      study documents proving at least 4 consecutive years of study in Romania, for
      those who have studied in Romania;

The Universities that organize Romanian Language Courses are:

1. "Politehnica" University of Bucharest;
2. University of Bucharest;
3. University of Bacau;
4. "Babes-Bolyai" University of Cluj-Napoca;
5. "Ovidius" University of Constanta;
6. University of Craiova;
7. "Al. I. Cuza" University of Iasi;
8. University of Pitesti;
9. "Oil and Gas" University of Ploiesti;
10. West University of Timisoara.

The closest University to Alba Iulia is "Babes-Bolyai" University of Cluj-Napoca (100
km.).

Tuition Fees for undergraduate programmes applicable for foreign citizens studying on
their own are:
A. For full time courses: 270 Euro/month for technical programmes, engineering,
sciences, mathematics and 220 Euro/month for economic sciences, social sciences
and the humanities.

B. Part time courses: 810 Euro/year for technical programmes, engineering, sciences,
mathematics and 660 Euro/month for economic sciences, social sciences and the
humanities.

We do not offer part time courses for all the BA programmes of our University so you
should first check whether the programme of your choice is given part-time!

The fee for sitting the Graduation examination is 270 Euro/month for technical
programmes, engineering, sciences, mathematics and 220 Euro/month for economic
sciences, social sciences and the humanities.

The tuition fee is to be paid after enrollment in the university in maximum 3
installments during one academic year. A first installment must be paid upon
registration. All tuition fees may suffer further changes.

The fees for one year of study include the assessed practical experience stipulated in the
curricula and the student medical assistance, in the same conditions offered to Romanian
students.

For extra fees, foreign students can have accommodation in the university campus and
have lunch at the student restaurant.

Please note that foreign students who are granted Romanian governmental scholarships
have priority for accommodation in university campuses. For other foreign students
accommodation can be offered only after the beginning of the academic year.

Documents required for application:

The language of instruction for the Master programmes offered by our University is
Romanian or English (at one MA Programme-Language and Communication for
Business Administration).

Therefore, upon enrollment at our University, the candidate will have to prove his/her
knowledge of English with an English Language Certificate or to pass an English
language test, or of Romanian with a Romanian Language Certificate. You can learn
Romanian during at least 6 months of preparatory Romanian language courses in an
institution that organizes preparatory courses of Romanian language; you can choose in
the Application form the Romanian University where you wish to study Romanian during
the preparatory year.
Citizens coming from countries where the official language is English, who want to
enroll for studies in English, are exempt from passing the language test. The candidates
must prove that they have studied in English.

      Bachelor's Degree diploma or Master Degree Diploma – copy in original
       language and notarized translation into Romanian/ English/ French/ German, in
       case the originals are not written in one of the languages mentioned above
      Transcript of Records for undergraduate or graduate studies – copy in original
       language and notarized translation into Romanian/ English/ French/ German, in
       case the originals are not written in one of the languages mentioned above
      Birth certificate – copy in original language and notarized translation into
       Romanian/ English/ French/ German, in case the originals are not written in one
       of the languages mentioned above
      Marriage certificate (if the applicant's last name changed subsequent to marriage)
       – copy in original language and notarized translation
      Medical certificate (in a widely spoken language) proving that the candidate is in
       good health and that he/she does not present any danger for public health, does

The admission of students at our University is based on an interview and on the
evaluation of the application file. Doctoral students need the scientific coordinator's
agreement and have to pass an admission examination in order to prove the required level
of knowledge.

The file submission period at the Ministry of Education is March 1 – August 24. We
strongly recommend sending the documents before the deadline! After this date, the
applications will not be processed!

The language of instruction for all Ph.D. programmes offered by our University is
Romanian.
Therefore, you have two options:

   1. learn Romanian during one preparatory year spent in an institution which
      organizes preparatory courses of Romanian language; you can choose in the
      Application form the Romanian University where you wish to study Romanian
      during the preparatory year.
   2. pass a test of Romanian language if the candidate can speak Romanian and skip
      the preparatory year;

The Universities that organize Romanian Language Preparation Courses are:
1. "Politehnica" University of Bucharest;
2. University of Bucharest;
3. University of Bacau;
4. "Babes-Bolyai" University of Cluj-Napoca;
5. "Ovidius" University of Constanta;
6. University of Craiova;

Tuition Fee for Doctoral Studies, full-time studies applicable for foreign citizens
studying on their own is: 240 Euro/month for economic sciences (Accounting) and the
humanities (History, Philology).

The tuition fee is to be paid after enrollment in the university in maximum 3
installments during one academic year. A first installment must be paid upon
registration. All tuition fees may suffer further changes.

For part-time programmes, there are also other fees:
- admission examination: 240 Euro
- defense of the Thesis: 440 Euro

The fees for one year of study include the assessed practical experience stipulated in the
curricula and the medical assistance, in the same conditions offered to Romanian
students.

For extra fees, foreign students can have accommodation in the university campus and
have lunch at the student restaurant.

Please note that foreign students who are granted Romanian governmental scholarships
have priority for accommodation in university campuses. For other foreign students
accommodation can be offered only after the beginning of the academic year.

2. What happens after you send us the documents?

We check your file and if you meet our requirements, you will be accepted for study at
our University. Then, your file will be sent to the Romanian Ministry of Education which
will issue the letter of acceptance for studies at our University (no later than September
1). We send you the letter of acceptance so you can get the visa for studies in Romania at
the Romanian Embassy in your country.

N.B.: Nationals of the following countries will send us their documents exclusively
through the Romanian Embassy in their country: Algeria, Malaysia, India, Pakistan,
Nigeria, Egypt, Iran.

   3. Registration

The original documents sent for the admission file, the original Letter of acceptance for
studies and the passport with the study visa must be presented upon enrollment at our
University. The student will sign a study contract and then pay the tuition fee (in the
account number indicated in the Letter of acceptance). The student will then be able to
receive a Romanian residence permit.
N.B.: Candidates who are already in Romania and have a residence permit must enclose a
copy in their admission file!

4. Scholarships

The Ministry of Education and Research offers every year a number of 30 full
scholarships for citizens coming from countries other than the EU and are not Romanian
ethnics. The scholarship covers the tuition fee for the entire period of the chosen degree
programme and also provides a monthly allowance and a guaranteed place in a student
residence hall. Our University will make proposals in the month of November and
depending on the grades and scientific performance of the student, he/she will receive in
January the notification of acceptance, if the case. The tuition fee paid at registration will
then be reimbursed to the student.

4. Other information

Study visas for Romania are available at the Romanian embassies all over the world.
Study visas will be processed by the Ministry of Education and Research and the
Ministry of International Affairs upon registration in Romania.
