									     Setting Up the DYMO
     LabelWriter 400 Printer with
     Terminal Services



     If you are using OfficeMate or OfficeMate Enterprise with Terminal Services, you can
     still use your local label printer even though your OfficeMate software is running on
     a remote computer. In order to use the DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer with Terminal
     Services, you must allow your local USB port to be available during a terminal server
     session and install the DYMO Label Software on the remote computer.

     This document describes the steps required set up your DYMO LabelWriter 400 for
     use with Terminal Services, including how
     •    To install the DYMO Label Software on the terminal server, 2
     •    To install and test the DYMO printer on the local workstation, 4
     •    To allow your local USB port to be available during a terminal server session, 5
     •    To test the DYMO printer through a terminal server session, 7

           Notes    • Depending on the policies of your network, local serial port mapping
                      might be disabled for some or all remote connections.
                    • You might see a security warning message asking if you want to
                      connect your local disk drives, local ports, or smart card to the remote
                      computer. To enable one or more of these connections, select the
                      appropriate check boxes. If you choose not to enable these
                      connections, a remote connection is still established, but these
                      resources are not available to the remote computer.
                    • The following instructions require that you have Microsoft Remote
                      Desktop Connection 6 (or later) installed on the local computer.
                      Information about Remote Desktop Connection can be found on
                      Microsoft’s Web site at

                    • OfficeMate Software Solutions does not support the use of any other
                      DYMO label printer, including any of the desktop or handheld label
                      printers. Information about the DYMO LabelWriter 400 can be
                      found on the DYMO Web site at
                      http://global.dymo.com/enUS/Products/LabelWriter_400.html.
                    • OfficeMate Software Solutions does not support the use of the
                      DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer beyond the information covered in
                      this document. Refer to the DYMO Web site at at
                      http://global.dymo.com/enUS/TechSupport/ for more
                      information.


              To install the DYMO Label Software on the terminal server
       1      Install the DYMO LabelWriter software from the CD that came with your
              printer.

               Note       If you do not have the DYMO LabelWriter CD, download the
                          printer drivers and software application from the DYMO Web site
                          at http://global.dymo.com/enUS/TechSupport/.
              When the DYMO Label Software installation launches, the License Agreement
              window opens.
       2      Select the I Accept radio button and click Next.
       3      Click Next to bypass the welcome message.
       4      Click Browse, select where to install the DYMO Label Software, and click Next.
       5      Click Next to bypass the installation message.

                      6    When asked to select a connection method, select the Network (LAN) radio
                           button and click Next.




                      7    When asked to select the type of printer, select DYMO LabelWriter 400 from
                           the drop-down menu.

       8    When asked to select a networked printer, type \\printer.




       9    Click Next to continue until the installation is complete.

            To install and test the DYMO printer on the local workstation
       1    Connect the DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer to your local computer’s USB port.
       2    Install the DYMO LabelWriter software from the CD that came with your
            printer.

             Note       If you do not have the DYMO LabelWriter CD, download the
                        printer drivers and software application from the DYMO Web site
                        at http://global.dymo.com/enUS/TechSupport/.
            When the DYMO Label Software installation launches, the License Agreement

                           and click Next.




                      8    When asked to select the type of printer, select DYMO LabelWriter 400 from
                           the drop-down menu.




                      9    Click Next to continue until the installation is complete.
                      10   Test the printer by following the instructions listed under the “Printing Your
                           First Label” section of the DYMO LabelWriter Quick Start Guide.

                            Note       If you do not have the DYMO LabelWriter Quick Start Guide and the
                                       DYMO Label Software User Guide, download these documents from
                                       the DYMO Web site at
                                       http://global.dymo.com/enUS/TechSupport/.

                           To allow your local USB port to be available during a terminal
                           server session
                      1    On the local computer attached to the DYMO LabelWriter 400, click Start.
                      2    Select Programs or All Programs.

       3    Select Accessories.
       4    Select Remote Desktop Connection.
            The Remote Desktop Connection window opens.
       5    Click Options.




            The Remote Desktop Connection window expands to show you more options.
       6    Click the Local Resources tab.
       7    Select the Printers check box in the Local devices and resources box.




       8    Click the General tab.

                      9    Click Save in the Connection settings box.

                            Note       The information that you set up becomes the default setting for all
                                       Remote Desktop connections on this computer and is saved in a
                                       file called Default.rdp.




                      10   Click Connect to open a terminal server session.
                      11   Open the DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer properties within the terminal server
                           session.

                            Note       If the DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer is not available within the
                                       terminal server, follow the instructions listed under To install the
                                       DYMO Label Software on the terminal server on page 2.
                      12   Select the Ports tab.
                      13   Select the TS### port that corresponds with the workstation that is attached
                           to the printer.
                      14   Click Apply to save your settings.

                           To test the DYMO printer through a terminal server session
                      1    From the computer attached to the DYMO LabelWriter 400 printer, open a
                           terminal server session.
                      2    Open OfficeMate or OfficeMate Enterprise Home Office.
                      3    Click Setup and select Preferences.
                      4    Select the Label Printer tab.

       5    Ensure that the DYMO LabelWriter 400, through the TS### port, is set as
            your default label printer.




       6    Click OK to save your settings.
       7    Open a patient’s record in the Patient Demographics window.
       8    Click Label to print a mailing or file folder label on your DYMO LabelWriter
            400 printer.
