EDCUTAH Welcomes KraftMaid to Salt Lake Valley
Salt Lake City, Utah – EDCUTAH, along with Governor Jon M. Huntsman and other government officials, welcomed KraftMaid Cabinetry, one of the nation’s largest cabinetry manufacturers, as Utah’s newest resident following KraftMaid’s announcement yesterday of plans to build a new manufacturing facility in West Jordan, Utah. KraftMaid President, Tom Chieffe, said the company plans to break ground on the new 700,000 square-foot production facility in the second quarter of 2005. KraftMaid will employ approximately 1,300 people at the new $106 million facility in Utah, where workers will eventually produce about 6,000 KraftMaid cabinets a day when manufacturing is at full capacity. Production for all westernbased KraftMaid products will begin at the new facility in the summer of 2006. KraftMaid selected West Jordan, a suburb of Salt Lake City, for a number of reasons, including its high quality and abundant labor base, as well as its central location and proximity of support functions. “A new facility in West Jordan, Utah, provides a central location from where KraftMaid can easily serve customers in the western and central parts of the country, helping us to reduce product lead times and improve service to these customers,” Chieffe said. "We applaud KraftMaid's decision to make this significant capital investment in Utah," said Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. "These manufacturing jobs represent the backbone of the economy." This project was initiated between J. M. Mullis, Inc., site consultant, and the State of Utah Division of Business Economic Development (DBED) in late 2003. economic incentives from the City.
