Advent Calendar 2008
Ministry for Children and Families Worship and Education Ministry Team Theme: Children and Families at the Margins
Children and Families at the Margins
The contributors in the first issue of the advent calendar have willingly written what life is for them on a daily basis. To protect their identity,
For the first Advent Calendar from the Ministry for Children and Families portfolio, the theme is about “Children and Families at the Margins” of society. As UCC families attend to the faith formation of their children this Christmas season, may the twenty-five stories of real children and families at the margins expose them to the realities of living. May a burning desire be nurtured with the children to follow what God requires, that is, to love mercy, do justice and walk humbly with our Creator.
the stories remain nameless except to simply describe them as a homeless child, an undocumented immigrant, a single mom having to raise four children, a family facing divorce, etc. They have been gracious to share their stories even in the midst of hardship. May these stories turn into meditations challenge all of us to reach out to our multicultural and multiracial neighbors in the spirit of being open and affirming. This season is also the time of the year to remind us that Jesus, our Savior was born in the margins of society.
HAVE A CHRIST- CENTERED
CELEBRATION OF THE
SEASON!
