Pelican Cup In Hungary
The MTVE - Hungarian Field Archery and Bow Hunting Club - is pleased to invite everyone to the traditional archery competition for the Pelican Travelling Cup to be held on the 8-9-10th of August, in 2008. In this competition, the famous Hungarian archers whose recurve bows were feared all over Europe in their time - meet the mighty English Bowmen whose Longbows proved their dower so many times all over the French lands during the Hundred Years War. Turkish archers will participate also!

Location: This event will be held in Hungary, Gödöllõ. Gödöllõ is about 30km from Budapest Competiton: Target, 2D, 3D animals Flight, clouth, roving, popinjay, puta (turkish) Individual and team (6 people) Program: 08. - Night Shooting 09, - Field Special (3D, 2D, round targets) + Tradítional archery related programs! Party! 10. – Speed, Target, Roving, Puta, Flight Costs: Entry fee for 3 day: 5000HUF (~20EUR) Entry fee for 1 day: 2500HUF. (~8EUR) The entry fee contains a lunch!
Accomodation: Tents, Jurt: 500 Ft/day/person (~2EUR) Rooms: 4000Ft/day/person (~15EUR) We have only limited number of rooms!

Rules of competition
The competition will be organized according to special rules which aim to secure the traditional nature of the competition.
Categories:
The competitors participate in traditional category: This implies of the traditional recurve bows and the traditional longbows as follows:
Traditional nomad recurve bow:
Recurve reflex bow with rigid ends Rigid, non flexible ends that do not participate in the bow's dynamic work. The rigid end not measuring less than 8 cms (3,15") from the elbow to the nocking point. The string length is not more than 160 cms (63") The Turkish bows are acceptable
Traditional Longbow:
The bow length is not less than 168 cm (66 5/32") using 26" or longer arrows and 153 cms (60 1/4") using 26" or shorter arrows in adult men's category. The string may only touch the bow at the nocking points, starting from which it shall continuously draw away from the belly of the bow. Both "D and "square" (flat) section are permissible. (In the Team Competition only the "D" section English Longbow is acceptable !) The shall not be of reflex-deflex characteristic. The nocked bow shall be straight or bent towards the nocking direction (belly).
Generally:
The grip shall not be asymmetric towards the sides or be less than 15 mm (19/32") in width. No window or any other arrow support is acceptable. The bow shall not be dismountable (take down). The protective cover on the grip (thin leather or bandage or horn/metal plate recessed in the grip not suitable for supporting the arrow) may reach no further that 1" below the arrow center. The string shall run along the centre of the bow all along the bow. The arrows shall be shot off the bow holding hand. No painting or bandaging or other marking of any kind is permitted on the upper limb of the bow as aiming aid. Bandage on the bow may only be in one colour. The shall not have any accessory except the arrow nocking point and the wrist sling. No "pistol grip" is allowed on the bow. The arrows shall be made of wood with natural feathers, plastic nocks are acceptable. The owner's name shall be marked on the arrows at the fletching. The arrows mus have tips that do not damage the arrow-stopper excessively.
Age groups:
adult men and women, junior and children.
Targets:
First day: Night shooting:
After dark, you have to shoot on rounded and 3D targets which will be lighted specially
Second day: Field Shooting
The competition consists of 72 shots shot at 24 targets. The targets make 2 groups: Target shooting: rounds, shots according to FITA standard (target and field). There will be targets that have to be shot at from fixed stands and unmarked distances too, also closing in and backing away. Three shot have to be taken at each target.
We decided to use FITA targets, because they are known in all countries)
FITA Target Face Hunting:

shots will be taken at 3D animal shaped hunting targets, from unmarked distance until the first score but a maximum of three shots shall be taken. In case of missing a shot the next shot shall be taken from the next pole further away from the target. Part of the
shooting stands will be "difficult", that is the shot will have to be taken from some obstacle - tree trunk, rock - or the shooting range is will not be clear.
Third Day: Combat archery
Speed Shooting Speed shooting: 80 cm (2'9") target from 15 meters (16,4 yards). 6 arrows as quick as you can as much arrows as you can within 30sec 6 arrows in 30sec on 6 spots Flight shooting Shoot your arrow as far as you can! Roving Mark Shoot a 3,66m wide target at unknown distance! Puta Shooting Traditional turkish targets!
Clothing:
It is NOT mandatory to wear a traditional costume. But if you have one please wear it proudly as a tribute to our archer ancestors!
Team competition:
In the team competition the English longbow archers encounter the Hungarian team shooting nomad recurve bows. 6 persons form a team, but only the best 5 scores per team count. The group division will ensure that memebers of the teams will be separated so, that a foreigner and Hungarian participants will form mixed groups. The winner team receives the Pelican Travelling Cup, which they own 1 for year.
Individual competition:
Individual competition will be held as usual, the 3 best contestants will be awarded provided, the category has at least 5 competitors.
