Siemens in El Salvador
Information & Communications, Medical Solutions and Automation & Drives are the areas that
perfectly describe Siemens’ presence in El Salvador, which has resulted in enormous benefits
for both the public and the private sector. This contribution is visible in the great number of
projects that Siemens’ different divisions have carried out in the country. But our mission goes
beyond sales and installation. Siemens offers ongoing training to all our clients and their
employees, enabling them to stay on top of new, world-standard technical developments. In
fact, we foster a special kind of supplier-client relationship that will hardly be surpassed by
any other company.
Solutions for All Sectors of the Salvadoran Economy
Information & Communications. Siemens’ presence in El Salvador’s public telecommunications sector started
in 1977, when we built and equipped the Terrena Izalco station and the coaxial cable to connect that station and
the cities of Sonsonate and Santa Ana to the country’s capital. In 1978, the EDX telex station was set up with an
initial capacity of 756 trunks, which in 1986 was extended to 1,008 trunks. In 1989, Siemens delivered its firs t
digital EWSD switching system in the country.
Currently, there are more than 310,000 EWSD ports installed in 150 urban and rural centers. More than 700 km
(435 miles) of optical fiber rings have been laid, which have state-of-the-art SDH equipment with capacities of up
to STM16. Additionally, Siemens has delivered latest-generation NetManager surveillance and management as
well as TNMS transport systems for the switching network. We have installed more than 250,520 primary pairs,
where we delivered materials and services for the laying of the cable network.
For the governmental sector, Siemens has built a large integrated telecommunications network, which includes a
EWSD switching system equipped with 4,300 ports. We have also installed a microwave network with 75
terminals and high-capacity SDH/PDH repeaters with multiplexing equipment, a data center with e-mail capacity,
as well as other state-of-the-art applications.
In fiscal 2002-2004, we have carried out important IP-convergence projects with HiPath 3000 servers, such as
the ones at the San Salvador City Administration and Cementos de El Salvador, S.A. (CESSA). Siemens has
significantly increased its participation in the market of GSM mobile phones, as CTE Telecom and Digicel
ordered large quantities of our models S55, C56, M46, and A56.
Medical Solutions. The health sector plays a vital role in the development of any country. Siemens offers
complete solutions designed to satisfy the needs of different branches of contemporary medicine. Among those
that have most benefited from our solutions are the ISSS, the Military Hospital, and the Hospital de Diagnóstico,
where a wide range of systems have been installed, including ultrasonography and mammography equipment as
well as state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging systems, such as the new Magnetom AvantoTM magnetic resonance
equipment. This is just an example of how Siemens always responds to the most specific demands of
Automation and Drives. Through various projects, Siemens contributes to El Salvador’s economic growth and
technical advancement. As in the past, both the private and the public sectors are receiving support and advice
from our experts, enabling them to satisfy the Salvadoran population’s growing demand for power. Siemens’
Industrial Solutions division has fostered the country’s development through many projects in the textile, food,
sugar and cement industries, as well as in commercial buildings. We have recently installed energy equipments
in the El Salvador World Trade Center, the Plaza Mundo mall, the Las Cascadas mall, the Multiplaza mall, the
