FIGHTING TERROR WITH TECHNOLOGY

 q The security technology industry is transforming itself
   to fight the war on terror.

 q Just three years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks,
   conventional security technologies such as access
   control,
   and weapon and explosives screening equipment are
   developing revolutionary new capabilities.

 q Once-lazy areas of technology such as chemical,
   biological,
   and radiological sensor systems have jumped to the top
   of
   government research and development priority lists.

 q Post Sept. 11 security needs have also boosted
   relatively new categories of security technologies
   covering areas such as cargo tracking, cyber-security,    2
   and data mining for intelligence purposes.

                SENSOR FUSION

• Fusing data and information from more than one sensor
  system (e.g., optical and radar) and information from
  other information sources (e.g., AIS, Low Cost AIS,
  maritime and security databases);

• Software solutions focused on accurately identifying
  suspicious, dangerous and prohibited behavior by
  vessels;

• Allocating sensor assets to evaluate vessels of interest

• Flexibly and automatically adapting to changing
  situations and conditions, both through machine
  learning and operator input.
