							The Presentation of Sonberk Winery


„The quality, created from the unique
harmony of the soil and sun…“ SONBERK
is one of outstanding modern wineries in
middle Europe, which owns 40 hectares of
top-quality vineyard „Sonberk“ and
produces 100,000 bottles of wine per year
only from this vinyard, which is known
already in XIIIth century. The wines from
Sonberk considered exceptional already in
1520 and delivered to the Prague Castle
in 1522. Its unique character is
outstanding and interesting location by the nearness of Palava lakes which offers an
unforgettable view of Palava mountain is beautiful.
Today we are writing a new chapter in its history and using its unique micro climate
in such a way, so as to allow the genius of nature to influence the development of
our wines as much as possible. That’s why we make the new winery building in the
middle of this beautiful place, and that’s why it is built by maybe the best
contemporary architect Mr. Josef Pleskot.

                        The harvest is strictly reduced by a careful selection of
                        grapes. Wine production is based on modern technology, as
                        well as top class care in de-stemming, pressing and
                        controlled fermentation. That’s why the wines are
                        characterized by their intense, full-body and deep, with the
                        winemaker’s unique signature, leaving behind and
                        unforgettable impression and originality of smoothness and
                        aromatic nature.

Cellar master, Oldřich Drapal Jr., is the first producer of straw wines in the Czech
Republic. He enjoys the reputation of not only producing these unique sweet wines,
but also dry wines which each year receive awards both at home and abroad — gold
and silver medals: VINALIES PARIS, MUNDUS VINI, DECANTER WORLD WINE
AWARDS, MUVINA, VINOFORUM, MONDIAL BRUSEL.
History




It is prooved that Sonberk planted wine already in XIII. century and thanks to it´s
location it produced famous popic wines, which for example in year 1520 reached
unique reputation in the whole country and in year 1522 winemakers were asked to
deliver their wine to prague castle for famous ceremony dinners of Jagiellonian.
Ludvig Jagiellonian was king of Czech and Hungaria at that time.

Production

                                                     The following varieties of wine
                                                     have been planted: Rheinriesling ,
                                                     Sauvignon, Gewurtztraminer,
                                                     Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Palava
                                                     and Moravian Muscat. 18 ha of
                                                     new vineyrds were newly planted
                                                     out (out of the total 40 ha) in year
                                                     2004 on a basis of an analyse of
                                             geological survey which was focused on
                                             convenient wine varieties.
                                             Wine is treated and leaves are selected
                                             during vegetation period by hands, hand
                                             pick of grapes is obvious and necessary
                                             for a quality of consequently produced
                                             wine.
                                             Unique matter is harvest which is strictly
                                             controlled and reduced. Average quantity
                                             of harvested grapes per one wine bush
                                             is around 1 kg. Grapes are harvested in
several phases according to a year of vintage and quality. To state an optimal time
of harvest, trial picks are made as well as laboratory analyses.

SONBERK is a modern winery which produces white and special wines from
traditional unique „Sonberk“ vineyard known from XIII. century in region Mikulov...

We produce wine from hand picked own grapes from purposly limited harvests to
achieve deep and typical delicious vintage which carries a character of the place and
excellent soil composition, carries care of a wine grower who takes care of vine and
grapes, are created by cellarman who turns grapes into wine, into a typical „sonberk“
wine suitable for everyday healthy sip, for special occasions and for archiving...wine
with signature of Sonberk.


                       Quantity of harvested grapes per one bush is around 0,5 to 1,5
                       kg. Year production is maximally 150 000 bottles of white
                       quality wines with special atributes and of special wines. The
                       reason of limited quantity is to achieve and keep the highest
                       possible quality of the whole production, which is experienced
                       not only by presidents. Wines won several awards on
                       international wine competitions...Vinalies Paris, International
                       Wine & Spirits Competition, Wine Challenge, Mundus Vini
                       Germany, VINITALY, World Wine Awards Decanter.
                       SONBERK is determinated as a winery form whose wine "you
                       can´t have a headache " - the most natural regarding vine
planting and mostly with regards to a production of healthy wine without any extra
human intervention and without adding of any substances including beet sugar or
reduces must, without any conservations except the only one which is used for
centuries – sulphite in minimal quantity. This enables careful harvest, care of people
and high technology.
