• A.A.S. in Medical Coding and Billing
Sanford-Brown College has informed the Illinois Board of Higher Education of its intent
to offer courses leading to the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Coding and Billing in the
The Program is designed to provide students with the appropriate didactic theory and
hands-on skills required and necessary for starting, maintaining and growing in a health
information coding and billing career. The program requires 28 quarter credits of general
education courses. Core courses consist of 57 quarter credits of courses in Medical Coding,
Medical Billing, Coding Applications, Human Anatomy, Medical Terminology, and Medical Law
and Ethics. The program also requires 6 quarters credits of professional studies and 4 quarter
credits of an externship. The program will be a total of 91 quarter credits.
The classes will be delivered primarily during the days and evenings. The College
estimates that approximately 125 students are expected to enroll in this program annually.
