Quick Reference Guides Creating Styles in MS Word 2007
You may be manually applying formatting to your documents e.g. to create headers you may add bold, increase the font size and apply paragraph formatting. There is an easier way to achieve this, especially if you use the same formatting for different documents. Styles allow you to save formatting sets and apply them whenever needed e.g. headers, captions etc and will save you lots of time, so why not create your own? ,
1. Creating styles
You can either create a new style from scratch (as shown below) or select your formatted text e.g. a header and create a style based on that, which takes into consideration the font, style, size, colour, paragraph spacing etc. o Create a new style 1. Select the Styles dialog launcher 2. Click the New Style button (bottom left) from the Styles toolbar Define style name and formatting (Create New Style dialog box) Name - give your style a name Style type - leave as is (unless for a table etc) Style based on - select the relevant style e.g. heading Style for following paragraph - select relevant style e.g. body text Formatting - select font, size, type, colour paragraph t, colour, Ensure style is added to Quick Style list automatically list; updated and for new documents based on this template Format button - make any final ad adjustments Click OK
Note: if you have created your style in your document and select New Style, Word will automatically base your new style on the style you have selected. : style
2. Applying styles
Now that you have created your style, you can apply this automatically to any text in your document from the Quick Style list. 1. 2. 3. 4. Create your document as normal Highlight the text you wish to apply your new style to From the Quick Style list, select your new style Your text will be updated to the style you created in step 1
3. Changing styles
Instead of deleting your existing style and starting again, if you want to edit the style, you can change the style instead. agai , 1. From the Quick Style list, right click your style 2. Select Modify... 3. The Modify Style dialog box will appear (same as the new style dialog box) 4. Amend the style as necessary → click OK to save
4. Deleting styles
If you no longer require a style, you can delete it. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Select the Styles dialog launcher Select the Manage Styles button (bottom right) Scroll down to find your style from the list Select the style you wish to delete Click the Delete button When prompted, select Yes to confirm deletion Click OK from the Manage Styles dialog box to save your changes
