The definition of Heuristic is ” A system of education which a child is allowed to discover”.

Managed by Emma Stockill (Btec Nursery Nurse with over 12 years experience) the staffing ratio is
maintained at 1: 3 children with qualified experienced and friendly staff ensuring a stimulating and
relaxed environment.

Enabling you to leave your child in an environment, secure in the knowledge that they will be well
cared for and all their need’s are met In the Heuristic Centre.

The environment:
*Homely with sofa’s, mat’s, cushion’s, baskets, boxes and baby chairs.
*Brightly decorated with mobiles, posters, artwork and displays.
*Purpose built baby change area.
*Purpose built sleep room.
*Fully equipped kitchen.
*Outdoor enclosed play area shared

The staff:
*Ratio is 1:3 children. Minimum 60% qualified staff some in training: above Ofsted requirements.
*The staff genuinely enjoy their work and show interest in children as individuals.
*We ensure a good age and skill mix to give children the best care.
*On going staff training is important to us as a Company.
*Will keep your home to nursery diary up to date.
*Will liase closely with the parent / carer in all aspects of care.

Food, glorious food:
*We actively plan and modify an interesting and balanced diet from weaning food to solids .We aim
to serve oily fish at least once per week.
*Food is home cooked on the nursery premises.
*The Environmental Health Inspector inspects us annually.
*The majority of our staff have Food Hygiene Certificates.
*We aim to provide menus free from additional salt, sugar and preservatives.
*We will make every effort to accommodate special dietary requirements.
*Only milk, formula or water given.

Opening Hours: We open from 7.30 – 6.00 daily excluding Bank Holidays and the week between
Christmas and New Year. We advertise some sessions between Christmas and New Year and open if
demand is there.

Sessions: We offer fulltime or morning’s only or afternoon’s only or a combination.

Sickness: You must not bring your child into nursery if unwell with undiagnosed rash, sickness or
diahorrea within the last 48 hours. We will ask you to collect your child if they become unwell whilst
in our care for the safety of children and staff.

Play Opportunities We offer stories, songs, puppets, circle time, painting, construction, music,
building blocks, books, sand and water play (under very close supervision) to name just a few.

Policies & Procedures: These can be found in the file in the first corridor. They include: - Equal
Opportunities, Child Protection, Nutrition, and Admission etc. Please take time to read our literature.

Information: We aim to forge a strong partnership with parents and families and have various
means of doing so. Seasonal newsletters, notice boards, displays, informal chats, home – nursery
book.

Admissions: To accept a place you must complete a registration form giving essential information.
One month’s fees are required as deposit and £25.00 registration fee entitles your child to 4 x 2.5
hour sessions.
Visits will enable you and your child to familiarise yourselves to the environment and staff and be
very helpful in the transition from home to nursery. A copy of our terms and conditions is in the foyer
with the policies and procedures.


Fees: All payments must be made in advance by the following methods-
      *Monthly standing order by 5th each month.
      *Monthly by cash in advance on the first day of attendance.
      * We do not accept cheques.

Full fee’s payable for illness and holidays. Included in your fees is deduction of 2 weeks @ ½ fees.
4 weeks written notice is required or the month’s fees.



Please provide the following:

Nappies of your choice daily, weekly or in bulk. Reusable is welcomed too.
Formula made up in bottles or breast milk.
Any lotions, creams, or regular medication prescribed by GP (labelled for individual use only.)
Change of clothes.
Sunhat and Sun cream.
