Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby!
It has been my pleasure getting to know you and to serve you in this experience.

Below is a list of information and local resources to aid in your cesarean recovery.
 Please ask for assistance in getting up for any reason the first hours after you are out
       of recovery
 Allow yourself to be cared for by others
 Allow yourself to care for the baby and yourself above all else
 You both need to be fed on a regular as needed basis. Please ask for help in this area.
 Good cesarean holds for breastfeeding – football hold, cross cradle, and side-lying.
You may have some initial challenges with breastfeeding – the lactation consultant at
the hospital can help address those upon request
 Movement in small spurts is good for you as soon as you are able.
 Reminder that you will have lochia (postpartum bleeding) just as you would after a
vaginal birth – bleeding should get lighter and lighter over a period of 2-6 weeks. If
bleeding picks up at some point the key is to slow down and rest.
 Your emotions may be “all over the map” after surgery, please be sure to address all
issues as they arise. Hiring a postpartum doula can be essential in this process.
 Be sure to check your incision daily and follow the hospital guidelines of wound care

If you need additional assistance with postpartum emotional healing, a local therapist
who specializes in postpartum issues is: Marianne Savarda at 650-1250
