On the server
What is needed?
    1. There must a merge publication of the atc database. This can be created by
       going through the replication wizard and accepting all defaults for the merge
       replicating the atc database.
    2. The publication must be named atcPublication
    3. Allow anonymous subscriptions

On the laptop
What is needed?
    1. Log on the laptop using an account with administrative privileges.
    2. Remote access to the laptop is required via Remote Desktop
    3. Installation CD sent by ATC or access to the Vetstar website to download or
       install the following (http://www.vetstar.com/support/Frame-
       Downloads.htm).
                It should have the following structure:

         Q: How do I know my server’s name?
         A: This is something that you need to know beforehand because it will require you to
         access your server. Step 11 on Installation Instructions will use the same procedure
         on the laptop.
         On the server:
         Two methods:
                 1) Right-click on My Computer -> Properties-> Network Identification -> Full
                 computer name.
                 NOTE: The full computer name may include extra info, which is not required,
                 e.g. if your full computer name is abc-mycomputer.abc-mydomain.com
                 you will use abc-mycomputer
           Or 2) From a command prompt type: echo %computername% <ENTER>




Installation Instructions

1. ___ Follow instructions to install SQL 2000 Personal Edition.
      -For instructions read HOW TO Install SQL Server 2000–Personal
      Edition.doc located in the \SqlPersonal folder on your CD or in the SQL
      Installation Instructions directory on the website.

         Q: What if I already installed SQL Server 2000 without following the provided
         instructions?
         A: Nothing will happen. However, you have to make sure that the following conditions
         are true:
                  -Auto Start Service for both Sql Server (MSSQLSERVER) and Sql Server
                  Agent (SQLSERVERAGENT) Services should be enabled.
                  -Both services should be using a domain user account to logon.
                  - To accomplish these two steps:
                          Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
                          -From the list of services locate MSSQLSERVER.
                          -Make sure the Status is set to Started. If not, right-click on the
                          service and click Start
                          -Make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic, if not, right-click
                          on the service and click Properties. Select Automatic Startup Type
                          -Click the Log on tab
                          -Click the This account radio button.
                          -Type a domain user account with administrative privileges. Make
                          sure it is a domain account, not a local one. If you are not certain click
                          Browse and select it (e.g MYSERVER\Administrator)
                          -Type username and password. Click OK.
                          -From the list of services locate SQLSERVERAGENT and do the same
                          as above.

                  -The authentication mode should be Mixed Mode.
                  -To accomplish this:
                  Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Sql Server -> Enterprise Manager <click>
                          -Click on the plus (+) sign on Microsoft Sql Servers
                          -Click (+) on Sql Server Group
                          -Right-click on servername -> Properties -> Security
                          -Select SQL Server and Windows. You will have to provide a
                          password for the sa login.

2. ___ Install the latest service pack of SQL 2000 Server (currently 3a)
      -For specific instructions read Install Database Components-SQLServer2000-
         SP3.doc. located in the \SqlServicePack3a folder on your CD or in the SQL Installation

         in the same folder on your CD.

         Q: How do I know if I already installed Service Pack 3 on my laptop?
         A:     Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Sql Server -> Query Analyzer <click>
                Click on Help menu -> About
                Version should be 8.00.760


3. At this point, provided steps 1 and 2 were followed carefully you should see the
   SQL Server Manager icon in the taskbar. Double-clicking on this icon should
    indicate that both the Sql Server and the Sql Server Agent are running.




4. ___ Make sure the Messenger Service is started and set to automatic
      To accomplish this:
             Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
             -From the list of services locate Messenger.
             -Make sure the Status is set to Started. If not, right-click on the
             service and click Start
             -Make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic, if not, right-click on
             the service and click Properties. Select Automatic Startup Type

5. ___ Install atcNTFiles and graphics.
      -To accomplish this:
              -Make sure the Vetstar software CD is loaded or the files from the
              website have been downloaded. Explore the contents of the CD or the
              directory in which the files have been downloaded.
              ___ Locate atcNTfiles.exe, double-click and extract to C:\atc\batch.

                  NOTE: atcNTfiles.exe is a compressed file. If you do not have an uncompress
                  utility on your sever, you can install Winzip (also provided on the Vetstar
                  software CD)

                  ___ Locate Graphics.exe, double-click and extract to C:\atc\graphics


6. ___ Install Sql Scripts
       -To accomplish this, from the Vetstar software CD or the Vetstar website:
              -Locate \ReplicationScripts\SqlScripts.zip, double-click and extract to
              C:\atc\batch.


7. ___ Install PROIV Kernel.
       -To accomplish this, from the Vetstar software CD:
              -Locate Windows_55r345.zip, double-click to begin installation.
              -A list of compressed files will be displayed.
              -Double-click Setup.exe.
              -Window will extract all files to a temporary folder and run the
              Setup.exe program. Click OK.

                           Hit the enter key to continue and PROIV will run in the
                           evaluation mode



                  -Follow these explicit directions:
                         - Make ProIV service log in as administrator
                             To do this:
                               Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools ->
                               Services
                               -From the list of services locate PROIV NT SERVER.
                               -Make sure the Status is set to Started. If not, right-click on the
                               service and click Start
                               -Make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic, if not, right-
                               click on the service and click Properties. Select Automatic
                               Startup Type
                               -Click the Log on tab
                               -Click the This account radio button.
                               -Type a user account with administrative privileges. If you are not
                               certain click Browse and select it (e.g \Administrator)
                               -Type username and password. Click OK.

8. ___ Add C:\atc\batch and c:\atc\proiv to the System PATH
      -To accomplish this:

                  - Right click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced ->
                  Environment Variables -> on System Variables locate Path -> Edit ->
                  add the following at the very end of the path field:
                         ;c:\atc\batch;c:\atc\proiv

9. ___ Share ATC directory
      To accomplish this:
             - Double-click on My Computer –> double-click on Local Disk (C:)
             - Right-click on the ATC folder and select Sharing.
             - Select Share this folder.
             - The sharing name should be atc. Click OK.
             - Make sure the share allows for write permissions

10. ___ From a command prompt, type refeval
       To accomplish this:
              -Start -> Run -> Type cmd <ENTER>
              -Type refeval
                      - return to continue
                      - return ‘y’ to run in evaluation mode
                      - enter the company name



         This will establish the C:\windows\pro4.ini (or c:\winnt\pro4.ini)
         NOTE: Please write down the site id and give it to John Cummins.


11. ___ From a command prompt, type mkatcini

         NOTE: You will be prompted to enter the server name (mandatory). The
         server name here is the name of the laptop.

         Q: How do I know my laptop’s name?
         A: Two methods:
                1) Right-click on My Computer -> Properties-> Network Identification -> Full
                computer name.
                NOTE: The full computer name may include extra info, which is not required,
                e.g. if your full computer name is abc-mycomputer.abc-mydomain.com
                you will use abc-mycomputer

         This process will establish the file atc.ini. Make sure that you have all the
         correct information in atc.ini file before going any further. All fields must be
         filled out. (Default settings are supplied).

         Ex. InstallVADDS=C:\ATC\VADDS
         InstallVetstar=C:\ATC\VETSTAR
         VetstarDir=C:\ATC\VETSTAR
         VADDSDir=C:\ATC\VADDS
         SnomedDir=C:\ATC\VETSTAR
         Server=abc-mycomputer (laptop’s name)
         LiveDatabase=

         NOTE: Do not close atc.ini, you will need it in the next step.




12. ___ Add LiveDatabase setting to atc.ini
         To accomplish this:
                -Go to the end of atc.ini
                -Type LiveDatabase=ATC
                -Save changes and close the file.
                  NOTE: Even if you had already closed the file in the previous step you can
                  always go back (Double-click My Computer -> (C:) -> Double-click atc ->
                  Double-click atc.ini)

13. ___ From a command prompt, type mkvetpiv

                  -Start -> Run -> Type cmd <ENTER>
                  -Type mkvetpiv

         This creates the necessary PIV and INI files in C:\atc\piv. (It also creates the
         data directories if they don’t exist.)

14. Add SQL_DBNAME setting to vetstar.ini
         To accomplish this:
                -Locate vetstar.ini.
                           -To do this: -Double-click My Computer -> (C:) -> Double-click atc ->
                           Double-click on piv -> vetstar.ini)
                -Go to the end of vetstar.ini
                -Type SQL_DBNAME=ATC
         -Save changes and close the file.



15. Only if you need to change the path where your Atc and AtcBackup databases will
    be created, you need to edit the replication.ini file (located in c:\atc\batch)
       The default value is:
               AtcSqlFolder=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data
       e.g: To use E:\myAtcDatabaseFolder as the default drive and location:
               AtcSqlFolder=E:\myAtcDatabaseFolder

         Q: When would I need to change the path where my Atc and AtcBackup databases will
         be created?
         A: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data is the default location
         created by the SQL installation. There is no need to change this default path value
         unless you do not have enough space on drive C or there is an explicit need to create
         the databases on another drive.

16. ___ Run copyservertolaptop
       -To accomplish this:
       -Open a command prompt window (Start -> Run -> Type cmd <ENTER>)
       -Type the following from the command prompt (bold letters):
       cd c:\atc\batch                                             <ENTER>

         NOTE: Do not include any quote or backslash(\).

         Example:
         c:\atc\batch> copyservertolaptop ABC-MAIN <ENTER>

         Q: How do I know my server’s name?
         A: See step 4 under What is needed from the On the laptop section (first page of
         this document)



17. After the execution of the batch file (copyservertolaptop) ends, an internal
    process that propagates the data from the server to the laptop starts. This
    process may take a long time to complete regarding the amount of data to be
    handled.
    -If replication on the server has been set properly, a Messenger Service popup
    window will show indicating that the "Laptop has been updated".

18. ___ Create the ATC Data Source
       -To accomplish this:
              - Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
              - Double-click on Administrative Tools
              - Double-click on Data Source (ODBC)
              - Select System DSN Tab
              - Select Local Server
              - Click Add
              - Select SQL Server (usually at the very bottom of the list)
              - Click Finish
              - Name = ATC
              - Description = ATC
               Which SQL Server do you want to Connect to?
               -Select (local)
               - Click Next
               -Select With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and Password
               entered by the user
              - Select Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings for the
              additional configuration options.
                      Login ID = ATC
                      Password = ATC
               - Click Next
               - Change the default Database to atc
               - Click Finish
               - Test the db

19. ___ Create a Local Vetstar shortcut.
       -To accomplish this:
              -Create a shortcut.
                  -To do this:
                          -double click on my computer
                          -go into c:\atc\piv
                          -Right click on Vetstar and select Send to Desktop.
                          -On the Type a name for this shortcut textbox type: Local Vetstar

                  -Change the default icon to a Vetstar icon.
                  -To do this:
                          -Right-click on the newly created shortcut.
                          -Click Properties.
                          -Click Change icon.
                          -Click Browse.
                          -Locate c:\atc\graphics\vetstar.ico
                          -Click OK twice.



20. ___ Test Local Vetstar.
       -Double-click the Local Vetstar shortcut created in the previous step
         -Can you log on ?
         Note: If you don’t know an user name, select VET as an user name and
         Password.
         -Are you getting any error?
         Troubleshooting:
         TO DO
         -May include the socket error. Joe changed two references of [laptop name]
         to 127.0.0.1 in vetstar.ini
         -The TERMMAST error -> Check PROIV NT service

21. ___ Create a Server’s Vetstar shortcut on the laptop.
       -To accomplish this:
              -Create a shortcut.
                  -To do this:
                          - start  run
                          - type \\servername\atc\desktop
                          - right click on Vetstar.piv and select send to desktop

                           -On the Type a name for this shortcut textbox type:Server’s Vetstar

                  -Change the default icon to a Vetstar icon.
                  -To do this:
                          -Right-click on the newly created shortcut.
                          -Click Properties.
                          -Click Change icon.
                          -Click Browse.
                          -Locate c:\atc\graphics\vetstar.ico
                          -Click OK twice.

22. Provided PROIV was installed correctly you will be able to access your Vetstar-
    server by double-clicking this shortcut. At this point, close Vetstar or/and any
    other application until the steps to be done on the server are completed.

On the server
What is needed?
    1. Name of laptop (See step 11 under Installations Instructions from the On the
       laptop section)

1.   ___ Add laptop database information to vetstar.ini.
         To accomplish this:
                -Locate vetstar.ini.
                           To do this: Double-click My Computer -> (C:) -> Double-click atc ->
                           Double-click piv -> Double-click vetstar.ini)
                  -Go to the end of vetstar.ini.
                  -Type the following
                         [DATABASE – laptop’sName] e.g. [DATABASE – abcLAPTOP]
                         FILETYPE=SQLSERVE
                         SQL_DBNAME = laptop’sName
                         CONNECTION= atc/atc/laptop’sName
                  NOTE: make sure to replace laptop’sName with the name of your
                  laptop (Remainder: On the laptop -> Installation Instructions -> step 11)

                  -Save changes and close the file.

2. ___ Create the laptop’sName Data Source
      -To accomplish this:
             - Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
             - Double-click on Administrative Tools
             - Double-click on Data Source (ODBC)
             - Select System DSN Tab

             - Click Add
             - Select SQL Server (usually at the very bottom of the list)
             - Click Finish
             - Name = laptop’sName
             - Description = laptop’sName
              Which SQL Server do you want to Connect to?
              -Select (Name of laptop from list)
              - Click Next
              -Select With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and Password
              entered by the user
             - Select Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings for the
             additional configuration options.
                     Login ID = ATC
                     Password = ATC
              - Click Next
              - Change the default Database to atc
              - Click Finish
              - Test the db
             NOTE: make sure to replace laptop’sName with the name of your
             laptop (Remainder: On the laptop -> Installation Instructions -> step 11)
3. ___ Add the Laptop on the Laptop File Maintenance (PM_LAPT)
      -To accomplish this:
             -Log on to Vetstar.
             -Invoke the following function: PM_LAPT
             -Enter values:
                     -Key: (correlative number)
                     -Laptop Code: usually first initial of owner’s name
                     -Description: Somebody’s laptop        e.g. Linda’s laptop
                     -Network ID: \\laptop’sName\atc\vetstar\
                              e.g. \\abcLAPTOP\atc\vetstar\

4. Provided your followed the steps for the laptop correctly you are ready to test the
   laptop.




Test the laptop
At this point you should go back to the laptop.

1. ___ Test copy server to laptop from Server’s Vetstar->Laptop Menu.
      -To accomplish this:
             -Double-click on the Server’s Vetstar shortcut that you created in step
             21 under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section).
             Vetstar will open.
             -Log on to the application (User = VET & Password = VET)
             -Window on the comand field on the Client / Patient Processing
             -Type Laptop Maintenance and enter
             -Select with the right arrow
             -Add the new laptop information
      -To accomplish this:
             -F5 and enter
             -Enter a code for laptop
             -Enter the network Id
                     ex. \\laptop’s name\atc\vetstar\ (abc-mycomputer\atc\vetstar\)
             -Enter through until field OK? (Y,<Cancel>):
             -Type ‘Y’ and enter
             -F3 to save (should exit to the Laptop Menu (PM_LAPTM)
             -Select option #3 (Copy Server to Laptop)
             -Select or type the appropriate laptop name -> enter ‘Y’ for OK
             <ENTER>
             -If replication on the server has been set properly, a Messenger
             Service popup window will show indicating that the "Laptop has been
             updated". It is the same message that you got at the end of step 17
             under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section.

             Note: This will take some time, before the message will display.
             Continue with step 2 after the Laptop has been updated message
             displays.
2. ___ Check the audit from Local Vetstar.
      -To accomplish this:
             -Double-click on the Local Vetstar shortcut that you created in step 20
             under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section).
             Vetstar will open.
             -Log on to the application (User = VET & Password = VET)
             -Window on the comand field on the Client / Patient Processing
             -Type Laptop Maintenance and enter

                  -Select with the right arrow
                  -Select the audit option # 4 and enter through for the current date to
                   see if the laptop was updated.

3. ___ To test the Laptop Upgrade option # 2
             -Double-click on the Local Vetstar shortcut that you created in step 20
             under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section).
             Vetstar will open.
             -Log on to the application (User = VET & Password = VET)
             -Create an account on the client master file
             -Create a patient and enter some procedure on the charge screen
             -Exit out of the application

                  Double-click on the Server’s Vetstar shortcut that you created in step
                  21 under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section).
                  Vetstar will open.
                  -Log on to the application (User = VET & Password = VET)
                  -Window on the comand field on the Client / Patient Processing
                  -Type Laptop Maintenance and enter
                  -Select with the right arrow (PM_LAPTM – Laptop Menu)
                  -Select option # 2 (Single Laptop Upgrade)
                  -Select the new laptop
                  -Enter ‘Y’ for field OK? (Y, <Cancel>)
                  -If replication on the server has been set properly, a Messenger
                  Service popup window will show indicating that the "Laptop has been
                  updated". It is the same message that you got at the end of step 17
                  under Installations Instructions from the On the laptop section.

                  Note: After the above message, go into the Server’s Vetstar and make
                  sure the client, patient and the charges you placed are on the Server’s
                  Vetstar.
