Marc De Buck, was born on the 16th of February, 1945 in Deinze (Belgium). He studied
Germanic Filology at the University of Ghent. After his graduation, he worked several years
as a lecturer. From 1974 until 1985 he taught Dutch and English at the National Teachers'
Training College in Ghent. In 1985, Marc De Buck became Director of the Atheneum of Tielt
(Belgium) and in 1986 he obtained the degree of inspector for Secondary and Higher
Education. From 1987 until 1999 he worked as a state inspector for Secondary and Higher
Since 1999 Marc De Buck is an executive member of the Provincial Government of East
Flanders. He is in charge of Economic Affairs, Spatial Planning and International Relations.
He combines these responsibilities with the vice-presidency of the Executive Council of the
Association of European Border Regions. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the
Regional Development Agency (POM) of East Flanders and member of the Board of Directors
of the Economic Council of East Flanders (EROV).
