Job Title: VP – Finance & Investments
Location: Washington, DC
Summary of the Position: Verdeo Group is an exciting early-stage company that invests in and develops emission reduction and energy projects in North America. We work side-by-side with emitters to ensure that they fully benefit from the expanding financial opportunities in the carbon market. Providing an integrated solution that includes technology, know-how and capital, we align our interests with those of our customers in order to optimize the financial value derived from reducing emissions. Backed by Black River Asset Management LLC, an independent subsidiary of Cargill, and Wolfensohn & Company, the company aims to be a leading developer of differentiated emissions reduction solutions. Verdeo’s Finance & Investments team will be responsible for working with the company’s business units to lead the evaluation and structuring of investments in emission reduction and energy projects. The VP - Finance & Investments will also participate in the company’s fundraising efforts. As part of the company’s senior management team, the VP – Finance & Investments will contribute to the company’s overall strategy and corporate financial management, while having primary responsibility for investment and M&A activity. This position will also assist with internal financial management, including providing analytical and financial/risk analysis support across the company as needed. The role requires strong analytical, deal analysis, financial modeling and process management skills, as well as a proven ability to interact with senior executives and work as part of a team. This position reports to the CEO, with dotted line reporting to Managing Directors of each business unit for specific projects. Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibility: Lead the company’s efforts to evaluate and structure investment, project finance, and M&A opportunities, including leading the due diligence process; Coordinate deal / partnership negotiations, potentially including the establishment of joint venture vehicles to invest in projects or take advantage of special situations; Working closely with the CEO, raise capital to fund the company’s growth and project investments, including the evaluation of various structures and alternatives; Serve Verdeo’s business units as an outsourced finance / risk management resource, working with Managing Directors to assess opportunities in their verticals; In conjunction with the CEO and Director – Operations, take ownership of the company’s business planning financial model and assist with corporate financial management; Generally support Verdeo’s new customer origination and corporate development activity.

Desired Profile: Minimum of 12 years’ professional experience, preferably in at least one of the following disciplines: power project development, private equity, M&A or project finance. Direct experience in the carbon, cleantech, or energy sectors highly desirable. MBA and engineering or environmental science background preferred. Demonstrated track record of identifying, evaluating, and closing transactions and managing multiple projects. Extensive experience with financial modeling, due diligence processes, and deal negotiations/structuring. Proven ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where everyone is expected to balance multiple roles and commitments. Entrepreneurial team player, willing and able to work long hours and contribute in multiple ways in a start-up environment. Willingness to travel extensively in the US, with some international travel possible Compensation: Competitive salary, participation in company stock option plan, and eligible for an annual bonus.
