JOB DESCRIPTION
YOUTH SERVICES LIBRARIAN, non-exempt (Cody) Under the supervision of Park County Public Library Librarian, provides library services for young adults (ages 12-18). Develops and maintains library collections for young adults; provides one-on-one and group training for library patrons and staff. The Youth Services Librarian will form and manage a youth advisory council and with their advice and assistance provide programming for young adults. Also performs professional work in reference, collection development, reader's advisory service, acquisitions, or other specific fields. May supervise the work of support staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Assists patrons with their library needs. Provides reader's advisory, quick reference, and detailed research assistance. Uses information resources in a variety of formats including print, microform, CD-ROM, on-line databases, the Internet, etc. to fill requests. • Develops and maintains library collections of books, magazines, audio-visual and other materials for young adults. Selects materials for assigned collections. • Provides both one-on-one and group training in the use of the use of the library, the library catalog, reference materials, computer databases, and the Internet. May teach classes for young adults, the general public and library staff. • Explains library policies and procedures to young adults and other library patrons. • Plans, presents and supervises programming for young adults. Supervises other staff presenting programs and events. • Plans, directs, and/or implements special projects for young adults involving library promotion and outreach activities. • Publicizes library materials and activities for young adults through displays, bibliographies, brochures, news releases, newsletters, etc. • May schedule, assign, supervise, and monitor the work of clerical and part-time employees within the young adult area. • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS • Possession of a Master's Degree in Library Science or its equivalent from an ALA accredited institution preferred. The equivalent in education and training will be considered. • This is an entry-level position; no previous experience is required. • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. • Knowledge of library organization, materials, services, and policies and procedures. • Knowledge of the principles and methods of evaluating library materials and equipment. • Thorough knowledge of young adult materials and services. • Ability to use computers and to utilize computer databases. • Effective written and oral communication skills. • Ability to organize and supervise the work activities of others. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff of other libraries, and the public. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet although occasional loud customers and equipment are present.
