JOB DESCRIPTION (Ref: BDG/RCS/002) Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Founded in 1784, the RCSI is a premier medical educational and research organisation, delivering the highest quality services on a competitive basis to Irish and global markets. Two RCSI Research Centres play key roles in the Biomedical Diagnostics Group Programme. The Centre for Human Proteomics (CHP) is an SFI-funded Centre for Science, Engineering and Technology, which focuses on the identification and characterisation of proteins involved in diseases [http://chp.rcsi.ie]. The Clinical Research Centre (CRC) is a new facility at Beaumont Hospital designed to support state-of-the-art in-patient and out-patient clinical trials [http://clinicaltrials-ireland.com]. The Biomedical Diagnostics Group (BDG) is a cross-institutional team carrying out research at the forefront of biomedical science and technology. Established in 2004 with substantial funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the BDG will carry out a 4year collaborative programme involving researchers from the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) at Dublin City University and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). The BDG will address key elements of biomedical diagnostics, such as biomarker discovery and biosensor platforms, and this work is expected to lead to innovative breakthroughs in diagnostic science and technology for critical diseases. The BDG is seeking high quality individuals to fill the following post: JOB TITLE: Programme Manger GRADE: CNM2 LOCATION: Clinical Research Centre, RCSI Education and Research Centre, Beaumont Hospital. REPORTING TO: Director, Clinical Research Centre and Director of Nursing DUTIES INCLUDE: • • • • • • • • • • Coordinating clinical trials. Planning, developing and implementing clinical research projects. Representing clinical research projects to clinicians and scientists. Identifying, screening and recruiting patients for clinical research projects. Undertaking other appropriate duties as assigned by the Clinical Director or nominee. Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety. Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time. Assisting in all matters related to patient care and well-being. Representing the best interests of the Centre/RCSI at all times. Preparing budgets, reports and proposals to funding agencies.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate: • • • • • • • A background in research is ideal but not essential. A background in clinical nursing is essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills A high degree of clinical competence Meticulous attention to detail Commitment to clinical research Ability to problem solve.
