Job description: KIDZONE Manager
Responsible to: Samantha Hepworth (Head of Juniors)
Responsible for: Any staff assisting in the running of the ‘KIDZONE’ provision (following
Ofsted ratios)
This post becomes free in July 2008. Kingsmead operates a Holiday Club provision
(‘KIDZONE’) for 15 weeks of the year (during the school’s holidays – 7 weeks in the summer,
2 weeks in October, 1 week each in December, February and May, and 3 weeks at Easter). The
‘KIDZONE’ Manager will need to have a ‘Playwork’ certificate at Level 3 (or Level 2 plus a
further childcare related qualification at Level 3 or above) and be prepared to undergo an
enhanced disclosure CRB check.
When open, ‘KIDZONE’ cares for children between 8:30am and 5:00pm daily, except
weekends and Bank Holidays. The post of ‘Manager’ requires attendance for each operational
day, plus preparation before every ‘block’ of operation and a small amount of administration
work during and after each block of provision. Commitment must be to the full 15 weeks of
annual provision and to the necessary preparation and administration required. The salary is
£6.000 p.a.
Administration
Maintain updated awareness of local initiatives to support ‘Out of Hours’ provision
(including access to grants and training) within Wirral.
Promote the ‘KIDZONE’ provision through marketing and advertising ideas.
Maintain (with the support of Kingsmead ‘reception’ staff) a database of ‘KIDZONE’
users and keep regular contact with them over forthcoming provision.
Develop creative and varied ideas for activities, and resource these within the budget
available.
Prepare and publish to parents an overview timetable of activities for the entire week, at
least three weeks prior to commencement of that activity week.
Collate all bookings onto an ‘Activity Participation Record’.
Ensure that all children booked in have completed and updated registration forms.
Collect all moneys due for bookings prior to the week’s activities beginning, and send
them to the school’s Bursar for banking.
Keep a record of all moneys collected and banked, as a ‘running total’ of income.
Appoint (at least two weeks in advance) an appropriate number of suitable/ registered
staff for each session, ensuring each staff member is aware of the duties expected.
Prepare, at least one week in advance, a detailed plan for each half-day session. Agreed
format should be used and saved in correct file on school network.
Obtain from the Bursar a ‘float’ for each activity week, balancing it daily and keeping
records and receipts of all purchases.
Ensure that all staff have clear access to detailed session plans relevant for the sessions
they are working and that all resources are easily available.
Maintain professional and clear communication at all times with parents, staff and
children involved in ‘KIDZONE’
Childcare
Ensure that all staff working with the children are approved by the school, are over 16,
and have CRB clearance.
Ensure that children are supervised within the approved minimum ratios (1:8 with a
minimum of two staff on duty at all times). ‘On duty’ can be within calling distance, if
separate rooms are used, so long as doors are open between them.
Ensure that there are always at least two members of staff on duty outside when children
under 5 are playing out.
Ensure that age appropriate play choices are available in each room, according to the age
of children expected to use each room.
Allow children appropriate opportunities for toileting and hand-washing
Ensure that snack times and lunches are taken together, in a ‘family atmosphere’, at the
tables in Daisy Room, with adequate staff supervision.
Ensure that children know what choices are on offer at each point of the day.
Check regularly that children feel happy and comfortable about the activities on offer.
Encourage a relaxed, but mutually respectful atmosphere – one of ‘healthy fun’.
Health and Safety
Monitor room temperatures (check they are ‘reasonable’) and report genuine concerns to
the Bursar or duty member of SMT.
Make provision for all packed lunches and afternoon snacks to be stored in refrigerator
until needed.
Ensure that floor areas are safe from dangerous obstacles (eg. leads across floor).
Provide children with access to hand washing after any ‘messy’ activities and before any
food handling (baking activities or eating).
Provide bins for food waste.
Ensure all tables are sprayed with disinfectant and wiped before meal times or baking
activities.
Ensure that the daily cleaning itinerary (listed on ‘Assistant’ job description) is adhered
to.
Ensure that the buildings are kept secure at all times – using keys and keypad codes.
Ensure that risk assessments are carried out, recorded and shared with the Bursar, at least
48 hours prior to each ‘trip’ or ‘visit’ within Holiday Club, and that all staff read the risk
assessments before the trip commences.
