WakeMed Employee Remote Access Instructions (XP)
Windows workstations
Minimum workstation requirements: Windows XP, Vista or 2000 w/ Service Pack 4 Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater Windows Installer Service 2.0 or greater (required for Citrix Web Client installation) Administrative rights to workstation to be able to install remote access software (if non-WakeMed device) 5. Latest version of Juniper Installer Service (found on remote access site) 6. Latest version of Citrix Web Client (found on remote access site) 7. Latest version of desktop shortcut (found on remote access site) 8. Broadband or DSL connection 9. Pop-up blockers disabled 10. *.wakemed.org added to trusted sites within Internet Explorer Please verify the above system pre-requisites prior to connecting to https://access.wakemed.org for the first time. You can obtain the latest versions of all the required client software from the login page. Connection steps: 1. To access the system, you must open Internet Explorer and type the following link in the Address Bar: https://access.wakemed.org and hit Enter. 1. 2. 3. 4.

2. Click on the link in the Troubleshooting section to install the Juniper Installer Service.
3. Click Run in the window that pops up.
4. Click Run again at the next prompt.
5. You will see a dialog box pop up showing the status of the installation. When it finishes installing and says Completed, please click Close.
6. Next, you will need to install the Citrix Web Client. Please click on the Citrix Web Client link on the remote access site.
7. Click Run in the window that pops up.
8. Finally, click on the link shown to install a desktop shortcut and add *.wakemed.org to your trusted sites.
9. Click Run at the next window that pops up.
10. Click Run again.
11. After you’ve installed the components above, please verify that the Citrix Web Client and Juniper Installer Service were installed by clicking on Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel ->Add Remove Programs. If you do not see the Citrix Web Client and Juniper Installer Service in the list, then repeat steps 1-8 again and see if that works.
12. Then verify that *.wakemed.org is added to the trusted sites in Internet Explorer by clicking on Tools in Internet Explorer, then selecting Internet Options. Then click the Security tab and next the Trusted Sites icon. Click on the ‘Sites’ button below to view a list of trusted sites. If *.wakemed.org is not listed please type *.wakemed.org in the field and click the ‘Add’ button then click Close. If this entire section is grayed out and you cannot change anything then you have a WakeMed device and this setting is already applied and correct. 13. Once you’ve verified everything is installed correctly you can proceed to log in to the site with your network or EPR Dashboard ID and password and click Sign In.
14. If everything installed correctly and you signed in properly then you should a screen pop up showing your connection being established, this will typically go away within a few seconds.
15. Once you are connected you should see a page full of links to WakeMed applications. Your list of applications may differ slightly from the list shown below. You should now be able to use these applications by clicking on the appropriate links.
Known Issues for Windows If Windows Installer Service 2.0 or above is not installed on the workstation, the Juniper Installer Service or Citrix Web client installations will not work. If during your Citrix Web Client and/or Juniper Installer Service installations you are receiving a lot of messages from your security and/or firewall software you can temporarily disable your security software and attempt to reinstall the Citrix Web Client. If you are still receiving multiple Active X prompts after installing both pieces of software, check to make sure that *.wakemed.org is added to Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer. If not, add it manually per step 12 above.
