              Assistant Youth Offending Service Officer

Directorate and Section/Unit: Children’s       Services   Directorate,
                              Worcestershire & Herefordshire Youth
                              Offending Services
Scale / Grade:                Scale 5
Reporting to:                 YOS Team Manager
Responsible for:              Limited supervisory responsibilities for
                             sessional workers

Main purpose of job:

To contribute to the principle aim of preventing offending by children and
young people by supporting YOS officers to carry out their duties.

Key Accountabilities:

•   To contribute to and, in low risk cases (type of offence and lack of, or
    limited, previous contact with the YOS), undertake high quality
    assessments for young people referred to the YOS.
•   To contribute to, and in low risk cases (type of offence and lack of, or
    limited, contact with the YOS), undertake Pre-Sentence Reports and
    other reports for court.
•   To attend court in support of the nominated YOS officer to ensure the
    YOS has a high quality and consistent representation at all youth courts.
•   To be responsible for the management of a case load (low/medium risk –
    ASSET Risk Matrix).
•   To implement the agreed supervision plan for the effective management
    of young offenders in the community.
•   To contribute to the delivery of intervention programmes e.g. groupwork,
    parenting work, victim contact, and attendance centre programmes.
•   To deliver and/or co-ordinate all elements of the supervision plan as
    required by National Standards.
•   To liaise with multi-agency YOS staff, and other relevant staff including
    Connexions, Education etc., to ensure that young people receive
    appropriate access to services.
•   To ensure that young people and parents/carers are supported to
    provide regular feedback on their views of the service offered.
•   To maintain accurate and up to date records of all work undertaken
•   To operate information technology programmes in accordance with
    Youth Offending Service policy
•   To work within Youth Offending Service Management of Risk policy and
    procedures.
•   To undertake limited supervisory responsibilities for sessional workers

•   To attend supervision meetings with the nominated line manager.
•   This post will involve occasional evening and weekend working, and the
    ability to travel throughout Worcestershire and Hereforshire.

General Duties:

• To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing
  demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and
  encourage and support staff in their development and training.

• To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be
  reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of
  responsibility of this job.

• To undertake health and safety duties commensurate with the post and/or
  as detailed in the Services / Directorate’s Health and Safety Policy.

In all contacts the postholder will be required to present a good image of the
Service, and the County Council as well as maintaining constructive
relationships.
