OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB


To support learners employed by a large national employer work towards and achieve a Level
1 and/or Level 2 national qualification in literacy and/or numeracy. The participants of these
programmes will be Entry 3 to Level 2 and will be using an electronic learning environment
with e-mail and possibly telephone support with their designated e-tutor. The tutor will guide
learners whose level is lower than Entry 3 to find alternative provision.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


 •    Answer any specific queries on the learning process as used in this programme
 •    Act as an advocate for the learner where technical issues are hindering progress
 •    Help the learner develop their understanding of key learning points to enable them to
      progress through their learning programme
 •    Monitor learners’ progress
 •    Follow up learners who are inactive in the system
 •    Carry out reviews with learners
 •    Maintain records of learner contact and provide reports to line manager as required
 •    Attend team meetings as required and contribute to the development of the courses




Job description
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Essential
   o Qualified Skills for Life tutor
   o Experience of teaching adults in a variety of settings
   o Confident IT skills and a positive attitude to the use of ICT in teaching


Preferred
    o Previous experience of providing e-learning support
    o Knowledge of the Move On approach


PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS


  •    Able to work on own initiative within a team that is geographically spread
  •    Enthusiastic about new ideas and willing to try things out
  •    A positive attitude to problem-solving
  •    Good communication skills (verbal and written) at all levels




WORK ENVIRONMENT


  •    The successful applicant will be working from home.
  •    He or she will need a computer and access to the internet through broadband.
  •    The successful applicant may be required to travel to another location for meetings on
       occasion (e.g. in Cambridge).
