Job Description: Part Time Church Secretary
A. Assists the Pastor in routine clerical tasks, as need arises.
B. Prepares Bulletin for Sunday Worship Service and other special services. Collates
information provided by the Pastor, Choir Director and other church members;
discusses bulletin content with Pastor; produces print-ready version of bulletin using
word-processing software on computer, obtains final approval of draft bulletin from
Pastor; prints bulletin on office copier and readies copies for distribution.
C. Maintain database of contact information for members and friends.
D. Responsible of all communications (phone and email) to the church and for referring
the information to the individual or committee responsible. Collects mail from PO
Box at the start of each working day. Assists with outgoing mail, and especially bulk
mailings, as necessary. Sends meeting reminders to people as directed by Pastor.
E. Assists the Pastor and Church Operations Committee in maintaining the Church’s
calendar of events.
F. Determined when routine office supplies, makes lists of required items, obtains
approval from the Pastor and then refers list to appropriate committee that handles
G. Perform routine back-up of computer files.
A. Capable of working independently; can complete routine secretarial tasks with
B. Maintain a cordial, professional relationship with others, maintaining a pleasant
demeanor at all times, including when on the phone.
C. Works effectively with other church personnel, and especially the Pastor.
D. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
A. Routine office skills, organizing papers, filing, etc.
B. Basic computer skills, including organizing files and performing backup (e.g. to CD-
ROM or flashcard).
D. Document preparation skills (familiar with MS WORD word-processing software,
basics of file organization, printing, email, etc.)
E. Able to travel to Post Office to send and collect mail.
Relationship with Church:
A. The position is not open to members of Palisades Presbyterian Church.
Candidates will be considered irrespective of membership in other churches.
B. No specific litmus test of beliefs, but must be willing to conduct self in a manner
consistent with us our non-discrimination and inclusiveness policies.
Education and Experience:
A. High school diploma with at least 1 year of office experience.
B. Some familiarity with church operations, as might be learned through church
attendance (though not necessarily at PPC), would be a definite plus.
